A Confused Person! Since when I urinate and perform wudu, then pray, I feel something coming out of my penis, and if I were to check for it, I would find that some urine has come out.

The questioner : A questioner says: O esteemed Shaykh, a person is confused, since when I urinate...

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : He is confused, he says: When I urinate, O esteemed Shaykh, and perform wudu, then pray, I feel something coming out of my penis. And if I were to check for it, I would find that some urine has come out. So what is the solution?

The Shaykh : Yes. There is no doubt that Allah (Mighty and Majestic), out of His wisdom, has placed strong nerves that hold the urine and feces in place so that nothing comes out. But these nerves may be affected by a disease and become relaxed, causing urine to come out either continuously or at times other than others. It may also be that the person himself is the cause of it. For some people, when they finish urinating, they squeeze the urinary tract from the anus to the head of the penis, pulling it. And some people keep straining until the last drop of urine comes out. And this is wrong. Even if some jurists say that it is a recommended practice (sunnah) to pull and strain, that is a weak opinion. Rather, it is a religious innovation (bid'ah), as stated by the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). And as is apparent from the Sunnah. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was never reported to have pulled the urinary tract from the anus to the base of the penis, ever. Nor was he reported to strain and pull the penis. But some people do this, either out of following the opinion of those jurists who said it, or because they imagine that if they do not do this, urine will remain in their penis. And this is wrong. If a person urinates, let him wash only the head of the penis. And that is sufficient. There is no need to strain the shaft, ever, or to move it. He washes the head of the penis that was affected by what? Urine. And everything is done. If a person habituates himself to this, he will not get this disease which he caused for himself. So my advice to this brother is to ignore this and not pay attention to it, and not to strain the penis or pull it. Rather, let it be in its natural state. When the last drop comes out, he washes the head of the penis. Perhaps, perhaps a person feels a movement in his penis, perhaps he feels it, so he is not required to go and look, meaning, when people feel a movement, they lower their trousers and start straining their penis from above. If he strains it, something comes out, or does it not come out? It must come out. It must come out. But leave it, do not pay attention to it. Some scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said that in this state, if a person is afflicted with this obsessive compulsion (waswas), he should sprinkle water on his trousers so that if he thinks or doubts, it will lead him to what? To this water. But we say there is no need for this. This is excessive effort (takalluf). Ignore this and do not occupy yourself with it. And it will be removed from you, by the permission of Allah. And do not go and look if you feel coldness at the head of the penis or feel a movement inside the penis. Leave this. Yes.
