The ruling on refusing to marry off daughters in order to keep their salaries.

The Shaykh : Likewise, among the obstacles is that some people, who do not fear Allah, do not show mercy to the servants of Allah, and do not fulfill the trust, when they have daughters who have a salary from the government through teaching or work, are found monopolizing the woman. They do not marry her off. Why? Because he wants to control the money she has. This is undoubtedly a betrayal and a disobedience to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). As for it being a betrayal, it is because the man monopolized her for his own benefit. He is her guardian (wali) and must choose for her what is best. How many girls groan with the groans of the sick because their father did not marry them off! He wants to take a small taste of life. There is no doubt that this is a great error, and that the man will be held accountable for his daughter on the Day of Resurrection, where he wasted the trust and prevented her from her right. We say to this man: Have you considered if you desired to marry and an obstacle prevented you from doing so? Do you not see that he has transgressed against you and wronged you? The answer is: Yes. He sees that he has transgressed against him and wronged him. If he sees that the one who prevented him from marriage, despite his strong desire for it, has transgressed against him and wronged him, how can he prevent this poor woman for his own benefit? And the wonder is that this is based on injustice and ignorance. As for the injustice, it is clear: he prevents her right to marriage. As for the ignorance, it is because if a man marries off his daughter who has money, does that prevent him from taking from her money because he married her off? Or is it permissible for him to take from her money what does not harm her? The answer is the latter, meaning, even if the woman—your daughter, for example—marries and has money, you may take from her money whatever you wish, as long as it does not harm her, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . Therefore, marrying her off does not prevent him from taking something from her salary, because he is her father. And if he is her father, he may take from her money what does not harm her. But this is from ignorance.
