The Meaning of the Supplicant's Words in the Qunut Supplication: "Grant the wrongdoers among us to the doers of good."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the Qunut supplication, there is a phrase about which people ask frequently, which our imams recite in their Qunut. They say: "Grant the wrongdoers among us to the doers of good".
And when we say it, we say, "What does it mean?"
We say: "Ameen."
Do we know what it means? I mean, based on the questions that come in, most of those who say "Ameen" do not know what it means.
Yes, because they ask about it a lot.
And what is the meaning of "Grant the wrongdoers among us to the doers of good"?
Yes, I say: We say "Ameen" based on assuming the best of the supplicant, and that he does not supplicate except with what is good.
Is that not so?
Otherwise, if someone asked us what it means, I would say: By Allah, we do not know.
That is why people ask about it a lot. Who knows its meaning? "Grant the wrongdoers among us to the doers of good".
Please, if you would, what does it mean?
The student: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, Allah supports this religion with the wicked man. إن الله لينصر هذا الدين بالرجل الفاجر
.

The Shaykh : To support it.
The student: To support this religion with the wicked man. So wickedness is wrongdoing, and Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) supports this religion and supports the doers of good sometimes with the wickedness of the wicked and their wrongdoing, and Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : Okay, this, did you understand the meaning?
He says: "Grant the wrongdoers among us to the doers of good", meaning make the wrongdoers support the doers of good.
Grant them to them; "grant" means "give."
So make the wrongdoer for the doer of good, meaning that the doer of good is supported by the wrongdoer. And he cited as evidence the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Narrated Abu Huraira: We witnessed along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) the Khaibar (campaign). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) told his companions about a man who claimed to be a Muslim, "This man is from the people of the Fire." When the battle started, the man fought very bravely and received a great number of wounds and got crippled. On that, a man from among the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) came and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Do you know what the man you described as of the people of the Fire has done? He has fought very bravely for Allah's Cause and he has received many wounds." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "But he is indeed one of the people of the Fire." Some of the Muslims were about to have some doubt about that statement. So while the man was in that state, the pain caused by the wounds troubled him so much that he put his hand into his quiver and took out an arrow and committed suicide with it. Off went some men from among the Muslims to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Allah has made your statement true. So-and-so has committed suicide." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "O Bilal! Get up and announce in public: None will enter Paradise but a believer, and Allah may support this religion (Islam) with a wicked man." إن الله ليؤيد هذا الدين بالرجل الفاجر
Sahih al-Bukhari 6606
.
Do you have another meaning? Because I am relating his statement.
The student: It is intended, and Allah knows best, that Allah the Exalted intercedes for the doers of good through the wrongdoers. And just as He accepts from the doers of good, He accepts from the wrongdoers and forgives them, and Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : Okay, is there a third meaning?
You heard him say: "Grant the wrongdoers among us to the doers of good", meaning that you make the wrongdoers within the intercession of the doers of good, as in the hadith:
for they are a people the seat-fellows of whom are in no way unfortunate. هم القوم لا يشقى بهم جليسهم
Sahih Muslim 2689
. Yes. Okay.
The student: I say the meaning, and Allah knows best, is: Guide the wrongdoers to the doers of good so that they clarify the path for them.

The Shaykh : Okay. So the "lam" means "to."
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Okay, rest.
This one says the meaning is that you make the wrongdoers take guidance from the doers of good.
So "Grant the wrongdoers to the doers of good" means guide the wrongdoers through the doers of good, guiding them to good and truth.
These are three meanings.
Who has one? Okay, please.
The student: Its meaning is: Grant the wrongdoers for the sake of the doers of good.

The Shaykh : And the meaning? What is the meaning of "Grant the wrongdoers for the doers of good"?
The student: Grant the wrongdoers as mercy for the sake of the doers of good.

The Shaykh : As the brother Mashari said, meaning from the perspective of intercession.
Okay, please.
The student: The meaning might be, and Allah knows best.
Make the wrongdoers, O our Lord, under the authority of the doers of good, so that they refrain from their evil thereby.

The Shaykh : Meaning, make the control of the doers of good over the wrongdoers so that they command them to do good.
So, these are four opinions from the scholars among you.
And the rest are silent because they do not have knowledge, even though we all say: "Ameen."
The problem is, meaning, a person says "Ameen" to something without knowing what it means?
The student: Assuming the best.

The Shaykh : There is nothing but assuming the best.
I have the closest opinion, and I say like you, and Allah knows best.
The closest opinion is that it is from the perspective of intercession, meaning that this large gathering includes the doer of good and the wrongdoer.
So make the wrongdoer a gift to the doer of good, who intercedes for him, and Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) accepts his intercession for him.
This is the closest opinion to me, and Allah knows best.
Okay, we are now finishing the discussion on what relates to what we heard from our imams.
And I think this method, if Allah wills, is beneficial, that we talk about what we heard, meaning about some of their gems.
