When I prayed for the first time, and after finishing the prayer, I prayed the prayer of gratitude because Allah guided me to the right path. Is the prayer of gratitude valid in such a case?

The questioner : When I prayed for the first time, and after finishing the prayer, I prayed the prayer of gratitude because Allah guided me to the right path. Is the prayer of gratitude valid in such a case?

The Shaykh : I do not know what he means by the prayer of gratitude. Gratitude does not have a prayer with bowing and standing; rather, it only has prostration. So if Allah bestows upon a person a renewed blessing, such as being saved from destruction, obtaining a desired thing that is difficult to attain, guidance from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), or repentance, and he prostrates to Allah (the Exalted) in gratitude, that is among the prescribed matters. Just as Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) prostrated when the glad tidings of Allah's acceptance of his repentance reached him. Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) lagged behind, along with two of the Companions, in the expedition to Tabuk. They lagged behind without an excuse, and they were Hilal ibn Umayyah and Murarah ibn al-Rabi', and the third was Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with them). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and they informed him that their lagging behind was without excuse, he left their matter and postponed it, and they faced a trial because of that, especially Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), whose famous story is in the two Sahihs and others. When the glad tidings reached Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he prostrated to Allah in gratitude. That was during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And what was done during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and was approved was prescribed if it was from the acts of worship, and permissible if it was from other than the acts of worship. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. Another message reached the program from the Democratic Republic of Yemen, from the listener Abdullah Saleh. He says in his message.
