What is transmitted is prostration of gratitude, not the prayer of gratitude

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A woman asks: What is the description of the prayer of gratitude? And what is the description of the prayer for guidance in a decision?

A: I do not know that anything has been transmitted regarding the prayer of gratitude; rather, what has been transmitted is the prostration of gratitude and the prayer of repentance. It is prescribed for a person, when he commits a sin, to pray two units of prayer and repent to Allah with a sincere repentance. This is the prayer of repentance, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
No servant commits a sin, then purifies himself and performs the purification well, then prays two units of prayer and repents to Allah from that sin, but that Allah will accept his repentance.ما من عبدٍ يُذنب ذنبًا، ثم يتطهر فيُحسن الطهور، ثم يصلي ركعتين ويتوب إلى الله من ذلك الذنب؛ إلا قَبِل توبته
Imam Ahmad narrated it with a sound chain from the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) .
Likewise, prostration of gratitude is prescribed for him. If he is given good news of something that pleases him, such as the birth of a child, a victory for the Muslims, the triumph of the Muslims over their enemy, or anything else that brings him joy, he should prostrate to Allah in gratitude, just as he does in prayer. He should say, "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High," and he should make supplication in the prostration, praise Allah, and extol Him for the good that has occurred. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prostrate to Allah in gratitude whenever something that pleased him came to him. When al-Ṣiddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was given the news of the killing of Musaylimah, he prostrated to Allah in gratitude. And when 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) found al-Makhduj among the dead of the Khawarij, he prostrated to Allah in gratitude.
As for the prayer for guidance in a decision, it is like the other prayers: two units of prayer in which one recites al-Fatihah and whatever is easy for him with it. After the closing salam, he raises his hands and supplicates to his Lord, seeking His guidance, saying:
O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge, and I seek Your power by Your might, and I ask You of Your great bounty. Indeed, You know and I do not know, and You have power and I do not have power, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter—and he names his need, whether it is marriage, travel, or otherwise—is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affair, then make it easy for me, and then bless me in it. And if You know that it is evil for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affair, then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree for me the good wherever it may be, and then make me satisfied with it.
Al-Bukhari narrated it in his Sahih from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah.
