The questioner : I had a child, and my wife vowed to fast on Mondays and Thursdays for the rest of her life if Allah would heal him. Praise be to Allah, he was healed, and my wife carried out the vow for one year, then she stopped, and then she returned to fasting this year. I ask: What is the ruling on the days she stopped fasting? What is the ruling on days of menstruation if they fall on a Monday or Thursday—does she make them up? What is the ruling in the future if she is unable to continue fasting for the rest of her life as she vowed? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with the best reward for the Muslims.

The Shaykh : Before answering this question, I would like to mention to my brother listeners that a vow is disliked, and some scholars have forbidden it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it and said:
It does not (necessarily) bring good (in the form of substantial, and tangible results), but it is the meant whereby something is extracted from the miserly persons. إنه لا يأتي بخير، وإنما يُستخرج به من البخيل
Sahih Muslim 1639c
A vow does not bring back what has passed, nor does it create what does not exist. Rather, you will find that the one who vows something struggles to fulfill it if it becomes binding on him. This confirms that a vow is either disliked or forbidden.
As for the answer to the questionThe questioner : This woman made a vow of obedience conditioned upon a specific condition. A vow of obedience conditioned upon a condition must be fulfilled, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(75) And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous." (76) But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused. (77) So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie.
[At-Tawbah 9:75-77]

This woman who vowed to fast every Monday and Thursday is required to fast every Monday and Thursday, because fasting on these days is obedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If she leaves that off, she is sinful and in great danger. If she leaves that off and does not fulfill it, she is sinful and in great danger, and it is likely that Allah the Exalted will follow it with hypocrisy in her heart until the day she meets Him, may Allah protect us from that. She must make up the fast if her menstruation coincides with the day. And if she expiates with the expiation for an oath due to the passing of the time, that is more preferable and safer. Yes.

The questioner : The listener is also Egyptian and works in Najran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He says.
