The questioner : At the end of the message, the listener Ahmad Sa'id Abd al-Ghaffar says: First, I thank Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for granting me the Hajj, and with the permission of Allah, I will perform the 'Umrah. What do you advise me regarding the performance of all the rituals of the 'Umrah and its obligatory acts? Please note that, with the will of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), I will perform a second 'Umrah for my deceased father after performing my own 'Umrah. Is it permissible to make du'a' for myself while performing my father's 'Umrah?

The Shaykh : In addition to the answer to the first question, he said:The questioner : After that, he visited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I have a note on this phrase: the visit is to the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whereas the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself is not visited after his death; rather, the grave is visited. Also, it is better for one who intends to go to Madinah to intend to go to the mosque, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One should not undertake journeys except to three mosques: al-Masque al-Haram (in Makkah ), the Aqsa mosque, or this mosque (in Madinah). لا تشد الرحال إلا إلى ثلاثة مساجد : المسجد الحرام ومسجدي هذا والمسجد الأقصى
Bulugh al-Maram 5:58
Therefore, one who intends to go to Madinah should not intend to travel to the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for this is among the intentions that are prohibited, either as forbidden or as disliked. However, he should intend to visit the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and pray in it, because prayer in the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is better than a thousand prayers anywhere else, except the Sacred Mosque. Then, he visits the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), where Abu Bakr and 'Umar were with him. He greets the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then Abu Bakr, then 'Umar. He also visits al-Baqi', where is the grave of the Commander of the Faithful, 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and the graves of many of the Companions. He also visits the graves of the martyrs at Uhud. He also goes to the Mosque of Quba' and prays in it. These are five places in Madinah: the Prophet's Mosque, the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the graves of his two companions, al-Baqi', the martyrs of Uhud, and the Mosque of Quba'. As for the other places of visitation in Madinah, they have no basis, and it is not prescribed to go to them.
As for the answer to his last question, which is that he wants to perform 'Umrah for his deceased father, and he asks whether it is permissible to make du'a' for himself in this 'Umrah:
The answer is that we say yes, it is permissible to make du'a' for himself in this 'Umrah, and for his father, and for any Muslim he wishes, because the intention is to perform the acts of 'Umrah for the person for whom it is intended. As for the issue of du'a', it is not a pillar or a condition of the 'Umrah, so it is permissible to make du'a' for himself, for the person for whom this 'Umrah is performed, and for all Muslims.
