The questioner : I have consistently read the book *Durrat al-Nasihin fi al-Wa'dh wa al-Irsad* (The Pearl of the Admonishers in Preaching and Guidance) and was moved by it, but I feel that it contains fabricated matters, and I have confirmed this. What is your opinion of this book, O honorable Shaykh?

The Shaykh : My opinion of this book and other books of preaching is that a person should read them with extreme caution, because many authors of preaching bring hadiths that have no control, no restraint, and no basis from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). In fact, they are sometimes fabricated hadiths and sometimes very weak. They bring them in order to soften hearts and frighten them, and this is a great error. Indeed, what is authentic from the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding hadiths of preaching is sufficient, and the Great Qur'an is the greatest thing by which hearts are admonished, as Allah the Exalted said:
O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers. يا أيها الناس قد جاءتكم موعظة من ربكم وشفاء لما في الصدور وهدى ورحمة للمؤمنين
[Yunus 10:57]
So there is no admonisher greater than the Noble Qur'an and what is authentic from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
If a person knows the state of these books composed on preaching and that they contain fabricated or very weak hadiths, let him be cautious of these hadiths. There is no blame on him if he benefits from the words of preaching written by the authors, but as for the hadiths, let him be wary of them and ask the people of knowledge about them. If the state of the hadith is clarified to him, let him write in the margin of the book that this hadith is weak or fabricated, or something similar, so that those who read the book after him may benefit from it.
