What is the response to the Tahrir Party in their claim that the forbidden singing is the singing that arouses desire, while that which does not arouse desire is not forbidden?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : O honorable Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : What is the deal with the Tahrir Party... I heard the tape that was released about them, so what is the difference between singing that arouses desire and singing that does not arouse desire? Because they say that the singing which arouses desire is forbidden, and that which does not arouse desire is not forbidden.

The Shaykh : It is not up to them. Religion is not based on desires. Religion is following the Book and the Sunnah and the sayings of the mujtahids among the imams, not everyone following their own desire or any party, issuing fatwas that cater to the times and cater to sin and lewdness, following the desires of people, and saying, "O people, follow the people. O people, follow the master of people, who is (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
You will follow the wrong ways, of your predecessors so completely and literally that if they should go into the hole of a mastigure, you too will go there. لَتتبعنَّ سننَ مَن قبلكم ؛ شبرًا بشبر ، وذراعًا بذراع ؛ حتى لو دخلوا جحر ضبٍّ لَدَخَلْتُمُوه
Sahih al-Bukhari 3456
So these are the instruments of amusement in which the disbelievers have specialized.

The questioner : These people, O our master the Shaykh, speak about the instruments of amusement being forbidden, but they say that singing in itself is just composed poetry.

The Shaykh : What is singing? May Allah guide you?

The questioner : They say it is composed poetry.

The Shaykh : I am asking you, what is the singing they mean?

The questioner : They mean composed poetry.

The Shaykh : What does "composed" mean?

The questioner : Composed means...

The Shaykh : Hmm.

The questioner : They...

The Shaykh : Leave "they" to me. I am asking you.

The questioner : Singing.

The Shaykh : What does "composed" mean?

The questioner : It means one who composes it according to his desire.

The Shaykh : According to his desire. The point is, O Shaykh, fear Allah, you and the group, and follow the sayings of the imams. A man among the great scholars of the Shafi'i school wrote a specific book on this topic and named it *Kaff al-Ri'a' 'an al-Sama'*.

The questioner : They, O honorable Shaykh, say that the story is a following.

The Shaykh : May Allah guide you and them. Now, do you want to tell me what they say?

The questioner : I want, O Shaykh, to take the correct opinion.

The Shaykh : I have given you the correct opinion and the matter is finished. Peace be upon you.

The questioner : Shaykh...

The questioner : The Shaykh is present.

The Shaykh : I am telling you, yes.

The questioner : Yes, O Shaykh, how are you?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah.

The questioner : I wanted to ask you, meaning, about the response that this... response to... response to him in...

The Shaykh : And what do you want with this matter, you?

The questioner : I mean.

The Shaykh : What do you want with this matter? What concerns you about this matter? Do you understand your religion?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, I understand my religion.

The questioner : But they stir things up now, they stir things up.

The Shaykh : I am asking you a question, do you understand your religion?

The questioner : Yes, I understand my religion.

The Shaykh : Where is Allah? Here, the Shaykh's donkey stopped at the obstacle.
