The arguments of those who say that these injections do not break the fast, and the response to them.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : If someone were to say: This analogy is not complete, because there is a great difference between them and eating and drinking. What is the difference? The difference is that eating and drinking provide more benefit than these nutritional injections. Second, eating and drinking provide a pleasure that these nutritional injections do not provide. For this reason, you find the person who is nourished by these injections to be at the height of longing for what? For eating and drinking. That is, he waits with impatience for the doctors to allow him to eat and drink. So what is the answer to this objection? Because this objection is a strong point. The answer is that the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Luqman ibn 'Ubayd:
Snuff up water freely unless you are fasting. بالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائما
Sunan Abi Dawud 2366Sahih (Al-Albani)
indicates that it is not a condition that a person must derive pleasure from what breaks his fast. Indeed, what reaches the stomach through the mouth does not provide the same pleasure as what reaches it through the mouth. And by this, we know that the analogy is complete, and that the injections by which one dispenses with food and drink break the fast. And because this is a matter of precaution, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. دع ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)
And because it is the general rule that a person does not need these injections except when he is ill with an illness that permits him to break his fast. Now, are these four or not? Count them for us. Count them for us while you are standing.

The questioner : Eating, drinking, intercourse, and what is akin to eating.

The Shaykh : What is in the meaning of eating and drinking. Now, rest.
