Explaining the Sunnah and innovations in burial.

The Shaykh : I will say that a questioner asked, saying: Some people, when they bury the deceased, one of them makes a supplication and urges the others to say "Ameen" to his supplication. He asked: Is this from the Sunnah? The answer was: No. Nothing has been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the burial of the deceased except to throw three handfuls of earth on his grave, without reciting verses. [Taha 20:55] This classification, this arrangement, this system has not been authenticated from the Messenger (peace be upon him). What is authenticated is that one takes a handful and throws it on the grave. The text specifies silence; nothing is recited. A first handful, a second, and a third. It is also established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani) So, everyone who is present at the burial, at the grave, at the time of burial, is addressed by the command of the Messenger (peace be upon him). Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 14:120 [Ibrahim 14:27] This is the steadfastness that the Messenger (peace be upon him) commanded those around the grave to ask Allah for him. Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani) This and that, other than these two, has not been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So, throwing earth three times without reciting anything, and secondly, seeking forgiveness for the deceased and asking Allah for steadfastness for him. Nothing after that. Everyone departs to their interests, to their works, to their homes. As for what is known as "ta'leem" (instructing the deceased), this instruction does not benefit the deceased at all. If we do not say that it may harm him. It is exactly like instructing a student during an exam. If the student has not prepared himself to answer well about what he will be examined on, does the instruction benefit him? No, it does not benefit him; it may harm him. This is like [Al-Hashr 59:21] The deceased who died, we strike this example as they say in some countries, "Alawiyyah." He died as an atheist. What is the benefit of saying: If they come to you and ask you, "Who is your Lord?" say, "My Lord is Allah." He cannot do it. Why? Because he did not practice himself, he did not take his lessons during his life to be able to answer that question from the angel assigned to question him. So this instruction, first, is not valid in the Shari'ah, and then it is not reasonable and not digestible by the mind. For this reason, we say: Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani) Bring it, whoever has a question, without words, it is only raising the hands, please.
From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.
Seek forgiveness for your brother, and beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now.
Seek forgiveness for your brother and ask Allah for steadfastness for him, for he is now being questioned.
Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter
يثبت الله الذين آمنوا بالقول الثابت في الحياة الدنيا وفي الآخرةand beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now.
And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.
Perhaps they will understand.
Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error
