The Shaykh : Like the two previous hadiths, he said: "And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: O Allah, make the provision of Muhammad's family sufficient just to sustain life. اللهم اجعل رزق آل محمد قوتا
Sahih Muslim 1055
Narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah. Here we find the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating for the family of Muhammad, meaning for himself, his household, his wives, and his descendants. All of these are the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) linguistically. It is possible to expand the term "family" here from the perspective of legal terminology to include every follower of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who follows him with sincere adherence, not merely by claim or desire, but by following him with sincere devotion. In that case, it is possible that every Muslim on earth falls under his statement:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: O Allah, make the provision of Muhammad's family sufficient just to sustain life. اللهم اجعل رزق آل محمد قوتا
Sahih Muslim 1055
, whether they are of the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) linguistically or not. If we understand this, it is not hidden from any of you that the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication for himself, his family, his lovers, and his followers that Allah make their provision a mere subsistence is a supplication for what is best for them in their religion and their worldly life. The secret of this, as we explained in the previous lesson, is that acquiring wealth requires tremendous efforts. It requires, above all, that the seeker pursue it through the lawful, prescribed path. However, if one acquires it and this wealth becomes abundant, the obligations upon him increase. New obligations become obligatory upon him from which he would have been at ease had his provision been merely subsistence and a mere livelihood. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) chose for himself, for his family, and for his lovers what is best for them, which is the middle path in all matters, neither excess nor deficiency, but rather the subsistence provision, as mentioned in the hadith before this one.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : This is a weak hadith. As long as you have the book, be glad of the explanation.
