The Shaykh’s discussion on the criteria for declaring someone a disbeliever.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... to Allah and His Messenger ... and he did not practically implement any of that.

The questioner: As for us, this is a disbeliever whose true state we do not know; because this is his outward appearance.

The Shaykh: And as for the Lord of the worlds?

The questioner: As for the Lord of the worlds, He knows his true state and gives him his due as a believer.

The Shaykh: Yes, that is settled.

The questioner: But we are now in the process of judging this society, in the process of judging this society by its outward appearance. So when we see a society that does not say: "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"; we must judge it as a disbeliever, a disbelieving society, and after that, what is in its heart is a matter left to Allah.

The Shaykh: This scenario does not materialize ... the phrase; meaning we cannot conceive of a believing society in its heart that does not display in its actions anything that testifies to what is in its heart, absolutely not.

The questioner: Yes, if we correct the phrase.

The Shaykh: Okay, now we will reconsider it.

Eid Abbasi: Perhaps, our professor, we can record it from the beginning of your speech, from the beginning of your speech ... .

The Shaykh: Is the recording device working now?

Eid Abbasi: Yes.

The Shaykh: Please, read, my brother.

The questioner: "The Jahili society is the one that adopts systems that disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger, and this name can only be applied to any people who do not believe in Allah and His Messenger at all. As for the Muslim people who submit to the rulings of Allah and His Messenger in belief, they are of two types; either they practically implement what they believe in their hearts; then it is the complete Muslim society, or they do not practically implement any of that, or they implement some and leave some; then it is not permissible to call their society a Jahili or disbelieving society, but rather it is said of them: a society in which there is Jahiliyyah, in accordance with the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to Abu Dharr:
You are a person who has (remnants of) Ignorance in him إنك امرؤ فيك جاهلية
Sahih Muslim 1661c
; because if we apply to it the name of a Jahili or disbelieving society, we would be doing injustice to its faith which was mentioned; especially if it is implementing some of it practically as we hinted at earlier."

Another questioner: From the perspective of judging the outward appearance, this society does not have anyone who says: "There is no god but Allah" and does not perform the outward actions for us without this question? This society, without asking it?

The Shaykh: This, my brother, is not conceivable; that is why we put "or some of that." In reality, it does not materialize for a society, and it does not appear, even from some of its individuals, anything that testifies to their faith.

The questioner: My master, why don't we correct the phrase?

The Shaykh: Please, propose.

Eid Abbasi: There is nothing ... .

The questioner: We say.

The Shaykh: No, it is fine, my master, if it needs clarification.

The questioner: So that for the outward judgment we say: he implements that in his heart and some of the actions, meaning.

Another questioner: Okay, I told you practically, he implements that, what is the implementation? It is known practically; was it?

The questioner: And if he does not implement that.

The Shaykh: Yes, take the phrase and put a word of your own, there is no objection on our part if you want to clarify.

The questioner: As for him who practically implements what he believes in his heart, it is the complete Muslim society.

Eid Abbasi: What he believes in his heart.

The questioner: Yes, and either he does not practically implement any of that.

Eid Abbasi: What he believes, meaning.

The questioner: Any of that practically means even that he does not say: "There is no god but Allah."

Eid Abbasi: That, what is that?

The questioner: Of that faith, meaning.

Another questioner: It is a Muslim society, it is said about it that it is Muslim, it believes, but it did not practically implement any of the faith.

The questioner: As for him who practically implements what he believed in his heart.

The Shaykh: ... we will fix it.

The questioner: Either he does not believe in any of that in his heart.
It is clear that it needs.

The Shaykh: How do you want it to be?

The questioner: And either he does not implement.

Another questioner: You took it based on the foundation of faith.

The questioner: And either he does not implement.

Eid Abbasi: The answer ended here.

The Shaykh: Mixing is permissible.
Yes?

Eid Abbasi: The answer has a continuation.

The Shaykh: No, it has no continuation.
