The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. There are many questions, but there may be a general issue that the community needs, from which we can benefit. Perhaps it will be facilitated for us, by the permission of Allah, to write it down and distribute it so that the benefit is widespread. Among these is:
A questioner says, O honorableThe Shaykh : Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. We ask you, O our noble scholar, to answer the following questions: There are some women’s fabrics on which are drawn images of animals or naked women representing the Virgin Mary, or images of men and children, and so on, and other fabrics on which the Name of Allah is written, even though much of it is not clear to the eye unless one observes and looks closely. What is the ruling on buying them, wearing them, praying in them, and entering the bathroom while wearing what has the Name of Allah written on it? Is it permissible for the seller to sell them without informing the buyer of what is on them? And is the price he receives permissible even if he informs the buyer? And what is the duty of the community, men and women, in eradicating this phenomenon? And may Allah reward you for Islam and the Muslims with the best reward?
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Resurrection. Our answer to this question is to say to its presenter: And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. As for the clothing you mentioned that contains what you described, it is obligatory for us to boycott it and not buy it, because it is forbidden, as it contains images, either images of animals, or images of naked women, or inappropriate writings, or writings of something respected, such as the mention of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). All of this necessitates boycotting it so that the enemies of Islam do not gain entry to us in such matters, which are used by the young and the old, and the people of evil have methods of calling to evil; they invade us with such things to pass them off on us. When a thing becomes common for a person, its awe diminishes in his heart and it becomes a habit. For this reason, there is a well-known proverb: "When touch becomes frequent, sensation decreases". As for bringing it in, selling it, and buying it, it is forbidden. It is not permissible for anyone to bring such clothing into the lands of the Muslims, nor is it permissible for anyone to undertake selling it to the Muslims, nor is it permissible for anyone to buy it. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Ibn Hibban 26:35. If these things are forbidden, then their price is forbidden. My advice to my Muslim brothers is to be vigilant regarding what their enemies intend for them. So we ask Allah for safety and that He help us to turn the schemes of our enemies back upon them.
