Is there a word for the guardians of women who prevent their daughters from marrying for the sake of love of money and greed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : She says: From your confused, jealous daughter. Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh, you know that the girl in this time has become broken-winged, humiliated, and despised; she is bought and sold. And I, in writing this, seek behind this defense of the Muslim girl, and my defense is a defense for her of her faith, her chastity, and her happiness and life, because the Muslim girl is the mother of generations, the educator of men, and upon her is the foundation of the society's rectitude. And the father of the girl may be a primary cause of her deviation or her betrayal of her husband. And how many are the tragedies in homes due to greed and love of money? So is there a word for women and the guardians of women? May Allah reward you with good. The one who wrote this is a girl whose father and brother stood against her when she wanted to marry.

The Shaykh : I seek refuge in Allah. This is a great matter and a big problem. For some men, and may Allah protect us, betray Allah and betray their trusts and harm their daughters. It is obligatory for the guardian to follow what pleases Allah and His Messenger. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, rather Allah the Exalted said:
And marry the unmarried among you وَأَنْكِحُوا الْأَيَامَى مِنْكُمْ
meaning marry the single women among you,
the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves وَالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَائِكُمْ
[An-Nur 24:32]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When there comes to you one of whose religion and character you are pleased, then marry her to him. If you do not do so, there will be a fitnah on the earth and great corruption. إذا أتاكم من ترضون دينه وخلقه فأنكحوه إلا تفعلوه تكن فتنة في الأرض وفساد كبير
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:875
And some people, and may Allah protect us, make their daughter a commodity; they sell her to whoever they desire and prevent her from whoever they do not desire. They marry her to one whose religion and character they do not approve of because they see that, and they prevent her from one whose religion and character they approve of because they do not see that. But if only we could reach a level where the woman dares, if her father prevents her from a suitable match whom she has approved of in religion and character, to go to the judge and say to her father: "Marry her, or I will marry her, or I will take someone else for her," because this is her right, the right of the daughter. If her father prevents her from a suitable match, she should ask the judge to marry her to another guardian or for the judge to marry her. This is a legal right. If only we could reach this level, but most girls are prevented by modesty from proceeding with this. And the advice remains for the guardian to fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and not to prevent her so that she becomes corrupt and corrupts. Let him weigh that with himself: if he wanted to marry and was prevented, what would his state be? And it happened in the past that a man, and may Allah protect us, prevented his daughters from marrying, and they grew old. One of them fell ill; her illness may also have been due to being prevented from marriage, and Allah knows best. But in the context of death, and with women present, she advised them and said, or they said, to her father: "Allah is sufficient for me against him, and my appointment with him is on the Day of Resurrection before Allah." Thus she said to her father. And even if she did not say it, this is the reality. Even if she did not say it, she will be an adversary for him on the Day of Resurrection
(34) On the Day a man will flee from his brother (35) And his mother and his father (36) And his wife and his children, يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ
['Abasa 80:34-36]
So my advice to the guardians, from fathers and brothers, is to fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and not to prevent women from what is their right, which is marrying them to one whose religion and character are approved. Yes, if she chooses one whose religion is not approved, he may prevent her. But if she chooses a man righteous in his religion and upright in his character, and then he prevents her for a desire in his own self, this is, by Allah, forbidden, a sin, and a betrayal. And whatever corruption results from his prevention, its sin is upon him.

The questioner : And finally, this is a question to the Shaykh concerning himself personally. It says: Your Eminence,The Shaykh : Will you go to Makkah during the spring break, or will you have lessons here or there? We ask for your information.

The Shaykh : The most likely is that we travel. The most likely is that I travel during this break, and I am not certain, but that is the most likely. If I am delayed, it is contrary to the norm. Yes, if Allah wills, if we go to Makkah, there will be lessons there, if Allah wills.

The questioner : May Allah reward Your Eminence, the Shaykh, for this pleasant and blessed meeting. And I would like to remind the brothers at the end of this meeting, and we have heard these directives during the spring break, so I remind the brothers to be keen on distributing this tape and sharing it for the benefit it contains. And the Da'wah Office will, by the permission of Allah the Exalted, take a quantity of this tape. So I call upon the brothers to assist in that. And may Allah reward you with the best reward.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good and may Allah bless you.
