What is the story of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding his saying: "He is not one of us who calls for tribalism" and his saying

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: What is the story of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He is not one of us who calls for tribalism
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Leave it, for it is foul-smelling
Does this include those who boast of their lineages and the nobility of their families and prevent their daughters from marrying anyone except those of their own lineage status, disregarding the other considerations to which the pure religion has guided, and likewise their sons do not marry the daughters of others except those of their own lineage status? And what is your advice to them?
The Shaykh: There is no doubt that disparaging lineage or boasting about it is among the matters of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. What should be the source of praise and blame is religion and character, and it is upon these that rejection and acceptance should be based in the matter of marriage. For in the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him), he said:
When someone with whose religion and character you are satisfied asks your daughter in marriage, accede to his request. If you do not do so there will be temptation in the earth and extensive corruption.
Mishkat al-Masabih 3090
So what a person should do is base his consideration for acceptance and rejection on these two matters: religion and character. Even wealth should not be given much attention by a person in this matter.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Otherwise, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a losers.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5090
So the Prophet (peace be upon him) made clear that among the purposes of marriage is that a woman is married for her lineage, just as she is married for her beauty, her wealth, and her religion. However, even regarding religion, in his saying:
So seize the one with religion
There is no doubt also that lineage has its effect in the relationships between people. But for us to make it the first and last thing, and the basis upon which matters are built in acceptance or rejection, this is not something that should be done. The jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) differed in this chapter. Some said: A woman from known tribes is not to be married to a man who is not from those tribes.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And some say she is to be married, but to one whose guardians do not agree to annul the marriage. And what I see is that one should not consider anything except what the Shari'ah has considered, namely religion and character. But if people have become accustomed to something that is not contrary to the Shari'ah and is in accordance with one of the opinions of the scholars, then they are not to be blamed or censured for it, as long as one of the scholars has said it and there is no contradiction with an explicit text. In any case, what should be considered is character and religion. And Allah knows best.

The questioner : Yes, may Allah reward you.
