The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : We ask for clarification on the ruling regarding borrowing money for marriage if a person has an urgent need for marriage.
The Shaykh : As you heard in our opening remarks, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not advise the one who said, "I have nothing," to borrow money, even though the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were the most eager people for good. If he had asked any one of them who was wealthy to lend him money, he would have lent it to him. However, he did not advise him to do so because debt is something the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked, and he did not specify a limit for it, as you know. If a person needs to get married, Allah the Exalted said in His Book:[An-Nur 24:33] And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 3080 This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. Therefore, the best course for this person is to be patient and persevere until Allah relieves his difficulty. Yes, if a man has a salary and knows that he can repay the debt from it within a year, for example, then there is nothing wrong with him borrowing, because repayment is near. I also tell you that if a person reaches the point of urgent need for marriage and has nothing, and has no father to provide for him and marry him off, then he is permitted to take from the zakah, and it is permissible for a wealthy person to give him all of his zakah so that he can get married with it.
