The Ruling on a Woman Refusing Marriage
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter reached the program from one of the female listeners. The questioner says: Your sister in Allah (F. M.) asks and says: What is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding a girl who refuses marriage, and she is a committed Muslim girl who guards her chastity, and therefore she sees no need for marriage. In addition, she lives in a society that mocks religion and ridicules those who adhere to it, so she is careful not to have a family in such a society, fearing deviation and loss. Please provide guidance, if you would be so kind, Shaykh Abdul Aziz.
Answer:
The prescribed path for both the woman and the man is marriage; this is what is prescribed for young men and young women, namely marriage, because of the protection of chastity, lowering the gaze, increasing the offspring, and increasing the Muslim community. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said in His great Book: [al-Nur:32], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 3080. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prohibit monasticism and command marriage, saying: Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:869.
So what is prescribed for the young man and the young woman is to hasten to marriage and to strive for marriage, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided to and commanded, for the benefits mentioned previously. Sitting without marriage entails a great danger. It is not befitting for a young man who is capable to delay marriage, and it is not befitting for a young woman to delay marriage if the suitable person proposes to her. But if she has an excuse that she does not like to reveal to people, she knows herself best. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
The presenter: And Allah is the Helper, may Allah reward you with good.
