Allah the Exalted said: << ولقد أرسلنا نوحا إلى قومه فلبث فيهم ألف سنة إلا خمسين عاما فأخذهم الطوفان وهم ظالمون >

The Exalted said: The letter *lam* is for the oath, and is for confirmation. {Come closer, my brother, come closer! May Allah guide you. You have some free space here... The angels used to line up and complete the first row, then the next... Don't come here, there is no one here, come here... The closer a person gets, the better it is for him.} The *lam* is a preparatory particle for the oath, and is for confirmation. The sentence is affirmed by three affirming particles. Allah affirmed this, even though the address is not to a denier, because it has been established to us that important matters are affirmed even if the one addressed does not deny or hesitate. All important matters are affirmed. Yes.
And His saying: means We sent him with a message. This was after a long period from Adam, for the people after Adam were on one religion without a message, because Adam was a prophet and not a messenger, since there was no one to be sent to; rather, revelation was sent to him with a law, and he worshipped in accordance with it, and his sons followed him in that. But when the sons of Adam multiplied, their opinions and desires differed, so they needed the message. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah: 213]. Thus, the Exalted and Exalted is He clarified when the messengers were sent? After the people differed. Therefore, there is a reading in it: , and this reading is indicated by the end of the verse: . So Allah sent Noah, who was the first messenger sent to humanity. Yes?

The Shaykh : It is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), yes, but I do not know whether this is correct or not? Because Ibn 'Abbas is among those who received knowledge from the Children of Israel, and he was forty years old or more "… he said, or more. The matter is trivial; we do not know the exact age. We do not know, but we know for certain that Allah sent him when his age was such that he could be qualified for the message, whether he was forty years old or more. Yes, and I do not think it would be less. And his saying:

To his people

إلي قومِه

this has a corroborating witness in the authentic hadith

And the Prophet was sent to his people in particular, and I was sent to all people in general.

وكان النبيُّ يبعث إلى قومه خاصَّة وبُعثْتُ إلى الناس عامَّة

he said:

and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years

فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا

[al-'Ankabut:14] He called them to the oneness of Allah, so they denied him

He remained among them.

لَبِثَ فيهم

that is, in his calling them to the religion of Allah

a thousand years minus fifty years

أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا

[Al-'Ankabut 29:14]

How long? Nine hundred and fifty years. He called them to worship Allah. A long period, and he was in conflict with them. And in the Surah of Noah, Allah the Exalted says

⁽²⁾ He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner, ⁽³⁾ [Saying], 'Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me. ⁽⁴⁾ Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew.' " ⁽⁵⁾ He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day. ⁽⁶⁾ But my invitation increased them not except in flight. ⁽⁷⁾ And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears

قال يا قوم إني لكم نذير مبين * أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ * يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لا يُؤَخَّرُ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ * قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا * فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا * وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ

[Nuh 71:2-7]

so that they might not hear what I say

and they would cover themselves with their garments

وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ

They covered their ears so that they might not see Me. I seek refuge in Allah. It means that they blocked all avenues of consciousness: hearing and sight

And they persisted.

وَأَصَرُّوا

regarding what they were upon of falsehood and sins

And they were arrogant.

وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا

from the obligatory duties

arrogance. ⁽⁸⁾ Then I invited them publicly. ⁽⁹⁾ Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly

اسْتِكْبَارًا * ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا * ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا

[Nuh:9] Look at the stages of the great call, and yet they did not benefit at all. Only a few believed with him. The period was long, the call was varied, and the opposition and hostility to Noah was severe and great. They passed by him while he was building the ship and they mocked him, but he was a believer in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and he said

If you ridicule us, then we will ridicule you just as you ridicule. ⁽³⁹⁾ And you are going to know who will get a punishment that will disgrace him [on earth] and upon whom will descend an enduring punishment [in the Hereafter]."

إِنْ تَسْخَرُوا مِنَّا فَإِنَّا نَسْخَرُ مِنْكُمْ كَمَا تَسْخَرُونَ * فسوف تعلمون مَن يأتيه عذاب يخزيه ويحلُّ عليه عذابٌ مقيم

[Hud:39] This long period, Allah the Exalted says in the Surah of Hud:

But none had believed with him, except a few.

وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ

[Hud:40] until one of his sons did not believe. Yes, and this obliges us to be patient and to count it as a reward. If one of us calls people for an hour and no one responds, he becomes angry and leaves the call, saying: there is no benefit. Yes, he stayed a thousand years except fifty years. Yes… and yet only a few believed with him. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:

So the flood took them.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الطُّوفَانُ

… because the story is sometimes abbreviated, mentioning the cause and the effect without detail. Sending and a long stay. Yes, and after that, taking. But taking due to a cause, which is His saying:

And they were wrongdoers.

وَهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ

[al-'Ankabut:14] He said, the Exalted:

So the flood took them.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الطُّوفَانُ

He took them. The most comprehensive of His saying is that He drowned them. He took them, and taking is in exchange for an action, so it is a recompense

The flood.

الطوفان

that is, the abundant water flowed around them and rose above them, so they drowned. " It flowed around them from every side, and I seek refuge in Allah. And Allah the Exalted mentioned the affair of this matter, so He said, the Exalted and Majestic: [al-Qamar:12] Look, all the gates of the sky were opened. If the gates of the sky are opened, they will be like water skins meaning, descending with intensity and force The entire earth burst forth with springs, until He said, the Exalted: [Hud:40] And it is the place of fire, far from moisture It began to boil… What do you think? The water would be above the peaks of the mountains within hours. And so it was, by the permission of Allah. It was so. The entire earth emitted springs, and the sky was pouring with great waters the water of the earth and the water of the sky Who could be saved from this? It is reported in the hadith that if Allah had saved anyone, He would have saved the mother of the boy, a woman with a boy. Whenever the water reached her, she climbed the mountain, and whenever it reached her, she climbed higher until she reached the peak of the mountain. When the water restrained her, she carried her son on her back so that she would drown before her son. But, and I seek refuge in Allah, the mercy of Allah the Exalted does not reach the disbelievers after they see the punishment [Ghafir:85] The important point
The student: The real sky?

The Shaykh : The sky above you, whatever is above you, is a sky that is, the abundant water flowed around them and rose above them, so they drowned a phrase in the position of an accusative as a state (hal) from the pronoun in His saying: meaning, and the state is that they were wrongdoers, that is, persisting in wrongdoing, they did not believe, because only a few people believed with Noah.
