What is the meaning of tasbih in the statement of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "If I were one who performs tasbih, I would have completed [the prayer]"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Al-Halabi : The questioner:The questioner : A question we mention in its entirety, as they say, "with its defects and its virtues." He says: The statement of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him):
were I to glorify (Him). I would have completed the prayer لو كنت مسبّحا لأتممت صلاتي
Sahih Muslim 689b
Do we understand from this that it is not permissible to perform tasbih after the prayer while traveling?

The Shaykh : May Allah guide him. This athar of Ibn 'Umar is authentic and is in Sahih al-Bukhari. It means: If I were one who performs voluntary prayers and is consistent with the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib) while traveling, I would have completed the obligatory prayer. But the matter is not a matter of opinion. I saw the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) praying in shortened form and not performing tasbih; he did not pray the regular voluntary prayers. This is the intent of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). And this is a very great statement: that the Muslim stands by what has come in the Shari'ah and does not judge by his intellect. But some people do not know how to submit, so they come to such a noble Companion and open their minds, saying to him: If religion were by opinion, I would complete the obligatory prayer, which is better than me praying the regular voluntary prayer, because the obligatory prayer is better than the regular voluntary prayer, as 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said from this scale and from this door:
If religion were by opinion, I would say that one should wipe the bottom of the leather sock, and not the top of it. But I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the leather socks. لو كان الدّين بالرّأي لقلت بمسح أسفل الخفّ و ليس مسح أعلاه و لكنّي رأيت رسول الله صلّى الله عليه و سلّم يمسح على الخفّين
.
Al-Halabi : Our Shaykh, you also mentioned in Irwa' al-Ghalal, quoting from Sunan al-Bayhaqi, that Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib saw a man praying and performing a lot of prayer, so he forbade him and said to him, "Are you forbidding me from prayer?" He said, "I am forbidding you from contradicting the Sunnah." So, our Shaykh, he commented on the statement: "Look how the Salaf were guided to follow, and that the original ruling in acts of worship is prohibition until evidence comes."

The Shaykh : Yes, by Allah.
Al-Halabi : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you.
