A reading by Ali Hasan from al-Silsilah al-Sahihah regarding the hadith prohibiting a woman from fasting while her husband is present

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Al-Halabi : The hadith in al-Silsilah, my Shaykh, Part One

The Shaykh : Good.

The questioner : Of course, the Shaykh has placed a heading from his fiqh: "The rights of the husband over the wife." The saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
A woman should not fast a day voluntarily in other than Ramadan while her husband is present except with his permission
Sunan ad-Darimi 4:38
After this, my Shaykh, you trace it and say: "And the hadith was narrated by the two Shaykhs from various routes from Sufyan, without the phrase 'a day voluntarily in other than Ramadan,' and this is a correct and established addition, and for its sake I traced the hadith here. It also came from two other routes from Abu Hurayrah to the same effect, the chain of one of which is correct and the other is good, and it has a corroborating narration from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri that is more complete than it, and it explains the reason for its occurrence, along with other benefits that one should look into. And this is its text." Meaning, it is actually beautiful.

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.
Al-Halabi : He said (may Allah be pleased with him):
A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while we were with him and said: O Messenger of Allah, my husband Safwan ibn al-Ma'tal hits me when I pray, forces me to break my fast when I fast, and does not pray

The Shaykh : Listen to this point.
Al-Halabi : Allahu Akbar, very beautiful
and forces me to break my fast when I fast, and does not pray the Fajr prayer until the sun rises. He said, and Safwan was with him. He asked him about what she said, and he said: O Messenger of Allah, as for her saying that I hit her when she prays, she recites two surahs and delays me, and I have forbidden her from them. He said, and he said, if it were one surah, it would suffice the people

The Shaykh: Allah is the Greatest!
Al-Halabi
And as for her saying that I force her to break her fast, she goes off and fasts, and I am a young man, so I cannot endure it
So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said at that time:
A woman should not fast except with her husband's permission
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 3:832
This, my Shaykh, indicates by implication...

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.
Al-Halabi : And as for her saying
As for her statement that I do not pray until the sun rises, we are a people belonging to a class, and that (our profession of supplying water) is already known about us. We do not awake until the sun rises. He said: When you awake, offer your prayer.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2459Sahih (Al-Albani)
Allahu Akbar! May Allah be pleased with her -laughingThe Shaykh : And the students-
