Dedication of the reward of reciting al-Fatihah to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Reciting al-Fatihah for the soul of the deceased

Question: What is the prescribed condolence? Is it sufficient to raise the hands and recite al-Fatihah when offering condolences?

Answer: The prescribed condolence is that when you meet the bereaved, you make du'a' for them, and you make du'a'
for the deceased,And you say: saying, “May Allah improve your consolation, may Allah mend your loss, and may Allah forgive your deceased.” You also make du'a' for the deceased with mercy and forgiveness. Also, if the family of the deceased is occupied with the loss and has not had the time to prepare food to eat, it is recommended (mustahabb) for the Muslim to prepare food and send it to them, to console them, assist them, and lighten their burden. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said when the news of the death of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and his martyrdom reached him,He said:
Prepare food for the family of Ja'far, for they have been afflicted with something that occupies themاصنعوا لآل جعفر طعامًا، فإنهم جاءهم ما يشغلهم
.
As for reciting al-Fatihah for the soul of the deceased, this has no basis in the Shari'ah, and no evidence has come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it. What has come in the Book and the Sunnah is making du'a' for the deceased, seeking forgiveness for him, and praying over his funeral. Also, giving charity on his behalf, and other forms of righteousness, such as performing Hajj and 'Umrah on his behalf. These matters reach the deceased by the permission of Allah if Allah accepts them. Similarly, sacrificing an animal on behalf of the deceased; the Shari'ah has come regarding all these matters that the deceased benefits from them.
As for reciting al-Fatihah, no evidence has come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it. This is something the ignorant have become accustomed to; they have become accustomed to reciting al-Fatihah for blessing, reciting it for the deceased, and reciting it on occasions they know among themselves. All of this has no evidence. Al-Fatihah is recited in what has been prescribed for its recitation: its recitation in prayer, and its recitation with the recitation of the Qur'an. As for reciting it for the dead or for the souls of the dead, no evidence has come regarding this. Or reciting it for condolences, no evidence has come regarding this from the Lawgiver. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
[Dedication of the reward of reciting al-Fatihah to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)]

Question: We are in a village, and all the people in the village, when they want to do something, say: “Al-Fatihah for the Prophet.” Does this matter have a basis in the Shari'ah? Is this a mistake? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: Al-Fatihah is one of the greatest surahs of the Qur'an; indeed, it is the Mother of the Qur'an, and it has great virtue. However, reciting it in such a situation, by reciting it in some cases for the Prophet, or for someone else, or for the soul of so-and-so, or for the soul of the deceased, this is a religious innovation (bid'ah), because no evidence has come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it.
Reciting al-Fatihah is an act of worship, and worship must have evidence,So the one who says: [for] prescribing the recitation of al-Fatihah for the Prophet or for other deceased people requires evidence for this statement. If evidence comes, otherwise this statement is rejected, because it is a religious innovation (bid'ah), and no legal evidence has come regarding reciting al-Fatihah for the soul of the Prophet or for anyone else. This is among the innovations for which Allah has not sent down any authority. Al-Fatihah is not recited for the Prophet or for anyone else; this is from one aspect.

The second aspect: That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is in no need of the reward of acts of worship being dedicated to him, except what has evidence for it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) receives from the reward the same as the rewards of those who followed him,As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone summons other to follow right guidance, his reward will be equivalent to that of the people who follow himمن دعا إلى هدى كان له من الأجر مثل أجور من تبعه
Sunan Abi Dawud 4609Sahih (Al-Albani)
, so every prescribed act of worship, if the Muslim performs it and receives reward from it, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) receives a reward like his, without dedicating the reward to him, or reciting for him, or the like of that. So the Messenger is not in need of dedication; rather, what is prescribed regarding
the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is to love him more than one's self, family, and wealth, and all people collectively. And what is prescribed is to send prayers and peace upon him, as Allah Mighty and Majestic has commanded, by our sending prayers and peace upon him, and that reaches him wherever we are,As in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
But invoke blessings on me, for your blessings reach me wherever you may be.صلوا علي فإن صلاتكم تبلغني حيث كنتم
Sunan Abi Dawud 2042Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
and also asking Allah for him the wasilah (intercession) and the fadilah (special favor) after the mu'adhdhin finishes, this has been commanded and prescribed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he encouraged it. So what has evidence for it, of sending prayers and peace upon him and asking Allah for him the wasilah and the fadilah, this is what we do.
As for al-Fatihah and its recitation, or reciting something from the Qur'an, or dedicating something of the reward, no evidence has come for this, so this is a religious innovation (bid'ah), as we mentioned, that matters are based on divine legislation (taqwi'fi) and acts of worship are based on divine legislation (taqwi'fi),And secondly: that the Messenger is in no need of that, because what Allah accepts of our obedience, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) receives from the reward the same as our reward, because whoever calls to guidance has from the reward the same as the rewards of his followers. And Allah knows best.
