The questioner : This questioner, Da'ah M.A. from the Republic of Egypt, al-Buhayrah, says in this question: I read in a book that the people of the Sunnah and the community said that whoever says the Qur'an is created is a disbeliever, and that the Qur'an is not created. What is the meaning that the Qur'an is not created and not a created thing?

The Shaykh : As for the one who says that the Qur'an is a created thing, he is an innovator and misguided, because the Qur'an is the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and the speech of Allah is among His attributes, and the attributes of the Creator are not created. The imams of the people of the Sunnah rejected those who said that, meaning those who said that the Qur'an is a created thing, with severe rejection. And the famous fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) that occurred in the time of the imam of the people of the Sunnah, Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him), arose from this, to the extent that some of them, meaning some of the imams, declared disbelief upon the one who says that the Qur'an is a created thing. There is no doubt that the one who says that the Qur'an is a created thing has invalidated command and prohibition, because if it is a created thing, it means it is a thing created in this specific form, like engravings on walls and paper and the like, which does not benefit anything, as it is neither a command nor a prohibition, nor a report nor a request for information.
As for the one who says that the Qur'an is created, he is not an innovator and not misguided, rather Allah the Exalted said:
No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play ما يَأتيهِم مِن ذِكرٍ مِن رَبِّهِم مُحدَثٍ إِلَّا استَمَعوهُ وَهُم يَلعَبونَ
[Al-Anbya 21:2]
Yes, if the one addressed does not understand from the word "created" except that it is a created thing, then here we do not address him with that, and we do not say that it is created, for fear that he may imagine what is not permissible. Yes.
