Discussion of some issues regarding riba.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: I mean, on the very same day...?

The Shaykh: I mean, if you cannot do so in the nearest time, that is known; because those who do not place this money with you or with others so that it may be blessed in it, but rather so that they may engage in riba with it; in that case, the assistance we referred to earlier is realized in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses
Sahih Muslim 1598
; knowing that this hadith is a detailing of what the Sunnah details regarding what came in the Noble Qur'an in general, such as the well-known verse:
but do not cooperate in sin and aggression
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
. So keeping the salary above what is possible is assistance in riba without a doubt. And the truth that those who claim to be scrupulous overlook is that they say: "We deposit the money and do not take interest," and they say: "It is interest," which is riba itself. They overlook or feign to overlook this Quranic principle:
but do not cooperate in sin and aggression
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
. Also, they feign to overlook or overlook that the bank's capital is the deposits that people deposit with them. If we imagine a bank where, in one hour, all those dealing with the bank agree to withdraw their money, what remains with them? A small amount remains; the bank becomes paralyzed; because what remains of money is not enough for them to manage their employees; it means it goes bankrupt... So this is the greatest assistance in establishing the bank and making it a reality.

Another questioner: Okay; my lord... he has one hundred thousand or two hundred thousand, where do you think he will put them?

The Shaykh : Yes?

Another questioner: Where do you want to take the one hundred thousand, two hundred thousand? Where do you want to spend them?

The Shaykh : Who is he?

Another questioner: A man has two hundred thousand dinars in cash, where do you want to go with it?

The Shaykh: One person is not enough, Abu 'Aziz. First: is this person a Muslim or a disbeliever?

Another questioner: I am a Muslim, and I have two hundred thousand.

The Shaykh: You want to say: Muslim.

Another questioner: And I have two hundred thousand.

The Shaykh: Do you want to take me in your dream?

Another questioner : Ah, go ahead.

The Shaykh: Muslim or disbeliever? You want to say: Muslim.

Another questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: Righteous or wicked? You want to say: Righteous.

Another questioner : Saleh.

The Shaykh: Or if he is wicked, it is ruined... correct?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: Ah, you want to say: Righteous. The righteous one remains, thinking in the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
. So the way out is not the one that the disbeliever made; the disbeliever, I mean the European and American disbelievers; the way out for the righteous Muslim is not this way out or this means that the disbelievers invented to preserve people's money, and it is haram. This is not the way out; the way out here should first be divine and from Allah, secondly it should be shari'ah-compliant; meaning within the limits of the Shari'ah; in the sense that there are causes that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) legislated with effects, these effects are permissible by the Shari'ah, consequently their causes should also be prescribed. I approximate this with an example.

The questioner: Go ahead.

The Shaykh: The example is: that it is not permissible for a Muslim to be a burden on people, begging for people's hands, but rather he earns his provision by the labor of his hand and the sweat of his brow. But the labor of his hand and the sweat of his brow is a metaphor for one of the causes of earning provision. So a person may engage in a light, easy cause that is not contrary to the Shari'ah. Another person takes such a cause - also - but it is contrary to the Shari'ah. So the first one who earned his provision by the labor of his hand and the sweat of his brow and by a prescribed cause earned his provision by a prescribed cause. The second is a seller of khamr - for example - he earns... by selling khamr, so he earns his provision by selling khamr. Selling khamr is a natural cause but not a shari'ah cause, so he commits haram to earn provision. And so causes are of two types: shari'ah and non-shari'ah.
Now, is placing money in the bank a shari'ah cause? Of course, the answer is: No. So when the Muslim asks, he says: So this rich man who has thousands upon thousands, where does he go with this money? First, let him fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic), secondly, let him take a prescribed cause. For example, one of the very simple causes is that there are trust boxes in banks, meaning you hear about these boxes, but these boxes, instead of the one who places his money... taking riba, the bank takes a fee from him. He wants a fee; this is a solution, but this solution costs what he does not like. So at least if he deals with people... he tells you: "I put it in the bank and do not take interest on it"; the issue returns to what we said, this is one who is unaware or feigns unawareness; we spoke of this an hour ago. So this is a prescribed solution. Go to the bank that has a box, deposit your money in it, and pay the fee, my brother. Allah will compensate you with good.
This is part of what? Fear of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). But there are causes simpler than this, and the one who has this money can take any other means. And Glory be to Allah! People are in a very strange state of heedlessness. What do they tell you, especially those living in Europe? They tell you: "My brother, we are living here in a society with killing, theft, looting, and so on; so if we want to put money in our possession and in our houses, we may be exposed to theft and killing."

The questioner: ... the same thing.

The Shaykh: I say: Glory be to Allah! On this logic, and I truly said to them when I was given the opportunity to travel to Britain, we met with some of them, as they call them today, Islamic communities, including Pakistanis, Indians, and others; I said to them: Glory be to Allah! What does one of you do walking on the road, raising a flag that he is a millionaire and has millions of pounds sterling and so on, and placing them in a wooden box in the house, raising a flag? What is this misplaced fear? But all this is very strong evidence that the hearts of these people are not connected to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), so they relied on material causes and forgot the Causer of these causes = -- welcome -- = which is Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He).

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh: Two hadiths... by the way, these rich Muslims who justify for themselves to contravene the Shari'ah of their Lord on the pretext of where do we go with our money? These people need to hear two hadiths that can be considered an interpretation of the previous verse:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out
[At-Talaq 65:2]
:
: The first hadith: He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There was among those before you a man who came to a rich man and said to him: "Lend me one hundred dinars." He said to him: "Bring a guarantor." He said: "Allah is the guarantor."
.

Another questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.
He said to him: "Bring a witness." He said: "Allah is the witness."
.
