The questioner : The questioner says in her final question: Is it permissible for a woman to cut her hair and nails, and other things, during the ten days, such that the ruling applies to the husband in his capacity as the one who sacrifices on behalf of his family?

The Shaykh : Yes. The summary of this question is that when the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah enter and a person intends to sacrifice, he does not take anything from his hair, skin, or nails. Does this ruling include the people of the household, meaning that the wife does not take anything from her hair, skin, or nails, and likewise the rest of the family? The answer is no. For the wives, sons, and daughters, mothers, and everyone in the house for whom the head of the household sacrifices, it is permissible for them to take from their hair, nails, and skin. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
any one of you intending to sacrifice the animal وأراد أحدكم أن يضحّي
Sahih Muslim 1977c
and he did not say "or one who sacrifices on his behalf." And because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sacrifice a sheep on his behalf and on behalf of his household, and it is not reported that he told them to refrain from taking that. If their refraining had been obligatory, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would have clarified it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
