The questioner : This questioner, in truth, wrote this question without mentioning his name in this message. He says: I read in a booklet titled (The Form of Sending Blessings Upon Our Master Muhammad) which contains great benefits for fulfilling needs, and the form is "O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, the secret of the life of existence and the greatest cause for every existent, the beloved and the Beloved, the healer of ailments and the reliever of distress". What is your esteemed opinion of this supplication? May Allah reward you with good?
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. My opinion of this supplication is that it is denounced and it is not permissible for a person to supplicate with it, because it describes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) as the secret of existence and as the healer of ailments, and this is shirk (associating partners with Allah). The Healer is Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) himself says in the supplication for the sick:Sunan Ibn Majah 3520Sahih (Darussalam) So how can one claim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is the healer of ailments? Whoever sees this supplication should tear it up and warn people against it.
And on this occasion, I wish to warn my Muslim brothers about the papers that people sometimes circulate, distributed by unknown individuals, containing various types of supplications that are all strange rhyming verses which distract people from the supplications reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) or those mentioned by Allah the Exalted in the Qur'an. You find that people, because of the good style of these supplications that are sometimes distributed, and because Satan beautifies them in their hearts, they cling to them and turn away from the beneficial and comprehensive supplications that came in the Book and the Sunnah. I advise everyone who comes across something of this to present it to the scholars before worshipping Allah with it.
Those who distribute these leaflets are either ignorant, in which case they are under the forgiveness of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), though I fear they may not be forgiven, because it is obligatory for a person in these matters to ask the scholars before distributing them; or they are deliberate in distracting people from the reported, prescribed supplications to these fabricated, rhyming supplications, in order to keep people away from what came in the Book and the Sunnah. There is no doubt that the supplications reported in the Book and the Sunnah are the best of supplications, because they are from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) who taught them to His servants, and from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) who taught them to his Ummah.
So beware, beware, O brothers, of clinging to these leaflets. Just as these leaflets appear in supplications, they also appear in other matters. Sometimes leaflets are distributed containing hadiths falsely attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). It is well known that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 3651Sahih (Al-Albani) and he said: Riyad as-Salihin 1548 So let the servants of Allah beware of these leaflets, whether by distributing them, printing them, buying them, selling them, giving them as gifts, or using them.
And the scholars, praise be to Allah, are present in the lands, and a person can reach them in person and face-to-face, or in person via the telephone. Yes.
