What is the validity of the claim that if a person dies at the age of forty, his soul remains in the house?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: They say, for example, regarding the fortieth day, that some people claim the soul of the deceased continues to come and visit the house.

The Shaykh : This is a superstition.

The questioner: So, what does the fortieth day mean?

The Shaykh : It is a superstition, a superstition. Do not listen to this talk.

The questioner: So, can we recite for the deceased on the fortieth day?

The Shaykh : I told you, it is not for the fortieth day. A son reads for his father, prays, gives charity, performs Hajj, performs 'Umrah. Any good deed has no connection to three days, or forty days, or a year. Any good deed he does at any time, the parents benefit from it. As for restricting this, as some people do, to three days or forty days, this has no basis. And the new thing you are asking about, that the soul of the deceased... this is a superstition with no basis. When a person dies, it is over; he has no more connection to this worldly life.

The questioner: If a person wants to see the deceased, what does he do?

The Shaykh : He is in his state! He cannot see him.

The questioner : Peace be upon you

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
Abu Layla : Our Shaykh, there are some shaykhs who ruin the world.

The Shaykh : Indeed, by Allah

The questioner : ... his father, that he died and he saw him in a dream.

The Shaykh :
a mixture of false dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams." أضغاث أحلام وما نحن بتأويل الأحلام بعالمين
[Yusuf 12:44]
.

The questioner : Since my father passed away, up to now, I have not dreamed of him except once. But there are people in the family who say they dreamed of him, this and that and that.

The Shaykh : Glory be to Allah.

The questioner : I am accustomed, meaning for years, when I go to sleep, I recite the Qur'an. I sit for a long time reciting, so because of that, I do not dream.

The Shaykh: Good.

The questioner : But I dreamed once.

The Shaykh : In any case, the rule regarding dreams is that if a Muslim sees something that distresses him and saddens him, whether it is related to his father, or his brother, or his friend, or his beloved, or his enemy, he should spit to his left three times and seek refuge in Allah. Then it will not harm him. And if he sees a dream containing good news, he should relate it to a sincere scholar, to a scholar who is sincere. And who is the scholar, and who is the sincere scholar?
