Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Peace be upon you

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace

The questioner : How are you, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Welcome.

The questioner : .. The Shaykh : Nasser al-Din

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : I love you for the sake of Allah, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Welcome, brother in Allah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Welcome, brother in Allah.

The questioner : Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd al-Wahhab, O Shaykh, I live in Algeria, and I want to seek your ruling on a matter.

The Shaykh : And that is

The questioner : My brother, the security situation here in Algeria is somewhat tense, and in any case, I have been subjected to harassment by the police... I was detained twice, but it was merely for questioning. As a result, my father insisted that I shave my beard or shorten it. My father is in his sixties, and he also monitors the women in the house regarding their religious affairs, their prayer, and their hijab. What do you say, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : I say: There is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator.

The questioner : Considering the circumstances, O Shaykh, that I mentioned.

The Shaykh : They are not legal considerations.

The questioner : ..

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : My family kicked me out of the house.

The Shaykh : They kicked you out of the house?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : How old are you?

The questioner : 27 years old.

The Shaykh : How much?

The questioner : 27 years old.

Another questioner : 26 , 26

The Shaykh : Twenty-six.

The questioner : 22

The Shaykh : Speak clearly, my brother, twenty-six.

The questioner : 2

The Shaykh : 22 ؟

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Ah, okay. Do you not have a place to stay?

The questioner : Well, Allah the Exalted will provide, if He wills.

The Shaykh : Then you have no excuse.

The questioner : In your father's house, I mean.

The Shaykh : You have no excuse, and there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator.

The questioner : Shaykh, my father has no one to serve him.

The Shaykh : There is no power and no strength except with Allah. Serve your Lord.

The questioner : May Allah bless you, Shaykh. May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : And may Allah bless you.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Do you hear me?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Tell your father.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Tell, tell your father.

The questioner : Yes, yes, I am listening.

The Shaykh : Obedience to your Lord is more important to me than obedience to you. So if you want me to obey you by following my Lord, then you must obey my Lord.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And not order me to disobey Him. In this case, I combine two obediences: obedience to my Lord and obedience to you. If you force me to disobey Allah, and that will deprive me of serving you, then that is what you have brought upon yourself and then upon me.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : You must explain to him the legal ruling, but with extreme gentleness, very, very gentle, and not with harshness and severity as many committed young people do, remembering with me the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
(23) And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
[Al-Isra 17:23-24]
If you do this, you will have discharged your duty to your father, and the responsibility falls upon him, not upon you. Perhaps you understood me?

The questioner : Yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Peace be upon you

The questioner : May Allah reward you, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you. Peace be upon you.
