The Meaning of the Statement of Allah the Exalted: "And of the people are some who say, 'We believe in Allah and the Last Day,' but they are not believers."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then He said:
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah ومن الناس من يقول آمنا بالله
[Al-Baqarah 2:8]
Who من
What does this mean here?
The student: Some.

The Shaykh : Some, meaning partial, that is, some of the people, and they are the hypocrites,
of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," من يقول آمنا بالله وباليوم الآخر
[Al-Baqarah 2:8]
meaning with their tongues,
but they are not believers. وما هم بمؤمنين
[Al-Baqarah 2:8]
meaning with their hearts. So they say with their tongues that they are believers, but they are not believers with their hearts. These are the pure hypocrites.
There are people who said:
We believe آمنا
, and Allah said to His Messenger:
Say, "You have not [yet] believed; but say [instead], 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts قل لم تؤمنوا ولكن قولوا أسلمنا ولما يدخل الإيمان في قلوبكم
[Al-Hujurat 49:14]
These are in a better state than the hypocrites because Allah said about them:
for faith has not yet entered your hearts ولما يدخل الإيمان في قلوبكم
[Al-Hujurat 49:14]
and faith ولما
This indicates negation with the nearness of occurrence, meaning he has not entered, but he will enter soon.
I say that these people say "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" with their tongues, but they are not believers in that with their hearts.
