The Shaykh : As for His saying: [Ash-Shuraa 42:13], the meaning is: do not divide in the religion of Allah. Division in the religion of Allah is what tore the Muslim community apart, turning it into small states and factions, with every faction rejoicing in what they have. Division within the Muslim community includes division in the fundamentals and division in the branches. Division in the branches includes division in the principles of the branches and in matters below that. All of this is what we are forbidden from doing: dividing in the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed this community that it would split into seventy-three sects, all of which are in the Fire except one, namely the one that is upon what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions were upon. When we look at the Muslim community, we find much division in the fundamentals and in the branches. Even among those who join under a single banner, we may find division among them, due to weakness in their religion and lack of insight.
