The Shaykh : And among this is what happens due to intense anger. A person may become extremely angry and say something that constitutes disbelief, but without intending it. He may insult the religion out of intense anger and resentment toward the one who provoked him, but he does not become a disbeliever because of that, as he did not intend it. For this reason, we say: Everything that results from intense anger in which a person cannot control himself has no effect. Even if a man divorces his wife while in a state of intense anger where he cannot control himself, his wife is not divorced. And if he declares her forbidden to himself while in intense anger where he cannot control himself, she is not thereby forbidden to him. And if he swears an oath by Allah in a state of intense anger where he cannot control himself, his oath is not established, because intention has a great effect in validating things and considering them. So, my brothers, I say: A man may say a word of disbelief and do an act of disbelief, yet he is not a disbeliever, because there is a barrier that prevents declaring him a disbeliever.
