The questioner : It is observed that many Muslims neglect the days of the festival and occasions in vain amusement. Is there any advice?

The Shaykh : Yes. The advice for the days of the festivals is that people should engage in amusement, but not to the extent of excess or amusement with what is forbidden, such as musical instruments, music, and the like, for that is forbidden, whether in the festivals or outside of them. However, there is no harm in people having some relaxation in playing with spears, lances, and weapons, provided there is no harm in it, because the days of the festival are among the times in which the Lawgiver has granted the souls some leeway.
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) saw two girls singing, so he rebuked them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let them be, for it is a day of festival." رأى أبو بكر رضي الله عنه جاريتين تغنيان فانتهرهما فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : دعهما فإنها أيام عيد
.
And you know that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has given the souls their due and expanded for them somewhat in the occasions.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah one day, and a woman's slave girl came beating the duff (the hand drum) in front of him, meaning she was striking the duff. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, I vowed that if Allah returns you safe, I would strike the duff in front of you." He said to her: "Fulfill your vow, fulfill your vow."
. Because her joy in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he arrived was a great joy, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted her to give her soul its due of this joy.
But it is obligatory for women, especially, not to go out to these gatherings, the gatherings of men, because this leads to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), especially since some women, and may Allah protect us from that, go out as if they went out to tempt people. They go out perfumed, they go out adorned, they go out displaying their beauty, and you find them at the height of causing fitnah to themselves. This is forbidden. It is not permissible for women to go out displaying their adornment, or to go out perfumed, or to go out in a manner other than one of tranquility, because the woman is at the height of being a fitnah for men, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have not left behind me a trial more injurious to men than women. ما تركت بعدي فتنة أضر على الرجال من النساء
