The reader: "How is their festival? And this is just as, when it was disliked because it was the site of their shirk (associating partners with Allah) through the worship of idols, that was even stronger proof of the prohibition of shirk and the worship of idols. And if the prohibition is because slaughtering there involves agreeing with them in the practice of their festival, then it is exactly our case; for mere slaughtering there was not disliked under this assumption except for agreeing with them in the festival, as there is no other danger in it. The first possibility was more apparent because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not ask him except about it being the place of their festival, and he did not ask him: 'Do you slaughter at the time of their festival?' And because he said:
Was there a festival of their festivals there? هل كان بها عيد من أعيادهم
It is known that at the time of the question, the festival did not exist. This is clear, for in the other hadith, the story was during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and at that time, no festival remained for the polytheists. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited slaughtering in a place where the disbelievers used to hold a festival, even though those disbelievers had become Muslims and abandoned that festival, and the questioner does not take the place as a festival, but only slaughters in it: then it is clear that this is blocking the means"

The Shaykh : You have it, then
The student: ...

The Shaykh : There is nothing in it, but there is no harm, yes
The reader: "It is clear that this is blocking the means to the preservation of something of their festivals, fearing that slaughtering there might be a cause for reviving the matter of that place, and a means to taking it as a festival, even though that festival was only"

The Shaykh : ...
The reader: "Even though that festival was only, may Allah know best, a market where they traded and played, as the Ansar said to him:
Two days we used to play in during the pre-Islamic age of ignorance يومان كنا نلعب فيهما في الجاهلية
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 7:4
The festivals of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance were not worship for them. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distinguished between it being the place of an idol and it being the place of a festival. This is a severe prohibition against doing anything of the festivals of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance in any way, and the festivals of the disbelievers, from the People of the Book and the unlettered, in the religion of Islam are of one kind, just as the disbelief of the two groups is equal in prohibition, even if some of it is more prohibited than some. And their ruling does not differ in the right of the Muslim. But the People of the Book were permitted to remain on their religion, with what is in it of their festivals, on the condition that they do not display them, or anything of their religion. And those [polytheists] were not permitted. Rather, the festivals of the People of the Book that are taken as religion, that are taken as religion and worship, are more prohibited than a festival taken for amusement and play; for worshipping with what angers Allah and He dislikes is greater than following desires with what He has forbidden. For this reason, shirk is a greater sin than zina (unlawful sexual intercourse). For this reason, jihad against the People of the Book is better than jihad against the polytheists, and whoever they killed from the Muslims has the reward of two martyrs. And if the Lawgiver has cut off the source of the festivals of the people of idols"

The Shaykh : Did he mention evidence for this? Do you have it in the marginal notes?
The reader: I have nothing

The Shaykh : Who will review it? Who will review this for us? And our companion, yes, the one who does not have an exam will review it, yes. Who are you?
The student: I will review it

The Shaykh : Yes, who are you so that your name can be recorded?
The student: Saleh al-Farikh

The Shaykh : Saleh al-Farikh
The student: al-Farikh

The Shaykh : al-Farikh, yes
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, the review is after tomorrow, if Allah wills. May Allah bless you. May Allah make your affairs easy.
The reader: "And if the Lawgiver has cut off the source of the festivals of the people of idols, fearing that the Muslim might be defiled by something of the matter of the disbelievers, of whom Satan has despaired of establishing their affair in the Arabian Peninsula; then the fear of his being defiled by the burdens of the remaining People of the Book is stronger, and the prohibition of it is more emphatic. How so, when the true report has preceded regarding a group from this Ummah (Muslim community) following their path"
