The Shaykh : He said: "And al-Barr in His attributes, Glorified is He *** is the abundance of good and benevolence"
Al-Barr is among the names of Allah
Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." إنا كنا من قبل ندعوه إنه هو البر الرحيم
[At-Tur 52:28]

And al-Barr is the abundance of good and its vastness; al-Barr is what exceeds [the limit] because He is vast and widespread.
"Issuing from al-Birr, which is His attribute *** So al-Barr, in that case, has two types
An attribute and an action, so He is al-Barr, the Benefactor *** The Master of beauty and the constant doer of good"

Al-Barr, which is His action, means that He shows kindness to whom He wills... to whom He wills. And al-Barr, which is His name and attribute, is essential to Him. So there is birr, which is benevolence, and from it is birr al-walidayn (dutifulness to parents). And there is barr on the pattern of fa'l, which is His name and attribute, so it is an attribute and an action. For this reason, he said: "So He is al-Barr" this in consideration of His attribute, and al-Muhsin (the Benefactor) in consideration of His action, meaning benevolence from birr. Yes.
The reader: "And likewise al-Fattah is among His names *** And al-Fath in His attributes is two matters
A fath by decree, and it is the law of our God *** And a fath by destinies, a second fath
And the Lord is al-Fattah by both of these *** With justice and benevolence from al-Rahman (the Most Merciful)"
