A man intended to perform Hajj, and some friends told him: Your Hajj is not valid because you performed it with the intention of working, even though he had intended to perform Hajj for a long time. What is your comment on this?

The questioner : He says that he intended to perform Hajj, but some of his work colleagues said: Your Hajj is not valid because you performed it with the intention of working, even though I have intended to perform Hajj for a long time. I ask for guidance on this?
The Shaykh : There is no harm in a worker who is taken by his employer to Makkah intending to perform Hajj or 'Umrah with that, because Allah the Exalted said regarding Hajj:[Al-Baqarah 2:198] It is known that following his companion does not obligate one to perform 'Umrah or Hajj; rather, it is by his own will. So if he intends to perform Hajj while carrying out the obligatory work for his employer, he has a reward in that without doubt, and the Hajj is sufficient for him and discharges the obligation, and the same applies to 'Umrah.
As for the statement of his companions that he has no Hajj, this is a statement issued from ignorance.
On this occasion, I say: It is incumbent upon a person not to rely on the statements of the common people, but to ask the people of knowledge about knowledge, because this is what Allah commanded, and He said the Exalted:[An-Nahl 16:43] I also advise one who does not have knowledge not to speak about what he does not know.
And I say: Speaking about what one does not know is forbidden. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-A'raf 7:33] And He said the Exalted: [Al-Isra 17:36].
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : There is no harm in a worker who is taken by his employer to Makkah intending to perform Hajj or 'Umrah with that, because Allah the Exalted said regarding Hajj:
There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord
As for the statement of his companions that he has no Hajj, this is a statement issued from ignorance.
On this occasion, I say: It is incumbent upon a person not to rely on the statements of the common people, but to ask the people of knowledge about knowledge, because this is what Allah commanded, and He said the Exalted:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.
And I say: Speaking about what one does not know is forbidden. Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know."
And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
