Does taking precautions and making preparations undermine reliance upon Allah or the creed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And peace be upon you.

The questioner : How is our Shaykh doing?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, I am well.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : How are you?

The questioner : Praise be to Allah; we praise Allah to you.

The Shaykh : And how is the mujahid?

The questioner : Well, and praise be to Allah, O mujahid.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah.

The questioner : O Shaykh, after a discussion with some of the brothers, is working, being cautious, and taking precautions—these are the things that are broadcast and heard among us, that there will be toxic and destructive gases and so on—so they issue instructions, meaning that one must close the doors and windows, put on adhesive paper, seal the openings, and sit in a small, narrow room... and among these instructions, does taking these precautions and making these preparations undermine reliance upon Allah or the creed?

The Shaykh : You know that reliance upon Allah (tawakkul) has different types. The hadith that came says
Seventy thousand people of my followers will enter Paradise without accounts يدخل الجنة من أمتي سبعون ألفا بغير حساب ولا عذاب
Sahih al-Bukhari 6472
and the story is well known. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
They are those who do not use charms nor cauterise themselves nor seek omens and who rely on their Lord. هم الذين لا يسترقون ولا يكتوون ولا يتطيرون وعلى ربهم يتوكلون
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 911
From this hadith, and the discussion is long, it is understood that whatever causes are certain in their benefit do not contradict reliance upon Allah, as well as causes where their benefit is probable. As for causes that are less than that, meaning they are close to illusions, then here comes this type of reliance which is the attribute of the seventy thousand. Based on this hadith, I say: whoever is convinced that war will inevitably take place, he must take the precautions, the causes of protection. And whoever does not believe so, like me, he does nothing and relies upon Allah. Did I answer you?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Fine, what else do you have?

The questioner : It is the same; commenting on this, I say we do not know the extent of the impact, we only hear it from them, and as the experts and analysts say about the gases dropped by the planes. We have not actually seen them, nor do we know the truth about them, except that we consider it unlikely that the matter will reach the point where they spread to an atmosphere of about one thousand or one thousand five hundred kilometers, covering a very large and vast desert. This is what we consider unlikely. Is it as if we see that it is a type of panic occurring among people to waste their thinking or divert them from thinking about what is more important than this image they are thinking about?

The Shaykh : No, today, my brother, from a scientific standpoint, do not rule out anything. You must be convinced of the reality of the Hiroshima bomb in Japan, how the town was destroyed. That was previously only a hypothesis, but it became a realized reality. However, the original issue returns to whether this war will occur such that each adversary is forced to use the most severe weapons he has against his adversary and enemy, or not. So whoever is convinced, he must take the possible means, and whoever is not, then he does not.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
