Working in a city located (40 km) from his village, is it permissible for him to shorten the prayer, given that he travels to his work city on Saturday and returns on

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says that he works in a city approximately forty kilometers from the village where he resides. Is it permissible for me to shorten the prayer there, given that I may travel to the city where I work on Saturday and return to the village on Wednesday, or I may travel to work daily? I ask for guidance on this matter?

The Shaykh : The preferred course is not to shorten the prayer in this situation, for two reasons:
The first reason is that the distance, which is forty kilometers, is not the distance at which shortening is permitted according to the majority of scholars.
Second, this man has made his work city or work village his primary residence, because he considers himself a permanent resident there, except that he visits his hometown at the end of the week. This is akin to settling there. Therefore, it is obligatory for him in this situation to complete the prayer, to limit wiping over the leather socks or socks to one day and one night, and not to break his fast in Ramadan if Ramadan coincides with his time at his workplace.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
