The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and the Imam of the righteous, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. As for what follows: Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): [Muhammad 47:19]. This command directed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is directed to him and to the Ummah as well, because the address directed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is for him and for his Ummah, either by way of following, because the Ummah follows him, or by way of emulation.
So the first, if we say by way of following, then the address in meaning is for him and for the Ummah, but his Imam was addressed with it, because they follow him.
And as for the second aspect, the address is for the Messenger (may Allah’s prayer and peace be upon him) first and last, and the Ummah, in complying with what is commanded, emulates the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
And if you want to know this rule, read the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Talaq 65:1] He addressed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) alone by the call , then He made the ruling general, saying: [At-Talaq 65:1].
Except if evidence establishes that the address is specific to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), then the address is specific to him.
An example of this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Ash-Sharh 94:1-4] To whom is this address specific? To the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place.
فاعلم أنه لا إله إلا الله واستغفر لذنبك وللمؤمنين والمؤمنات والله يعلم متقلبكم ومثواكمSo the first, if we say by way of following, then the address in meaning is for him and for the Ummah, but his Imam was addressed with it, because they follow him.
And as for the second aspect, the address is for the Messenger (may Allah’s prayer and peace be upon him) first and last, and the Ummah, in complying with what is commanded, emulates the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).

O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women, divorce them
يا أيها النبي إذا طلقتم النساء فطلقوهنO Prophet
