Evidence for the Legitimacy of Wiping over Leather Socks and Cotton Socks from the Noble Book
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Wiping over leather socks or cotton socks is indicated by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
As for the Book of Allah, it is in His saying, the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:6] with the kasrah (short i) is a seven-recitation reading established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is conjoined to His saying meaning, and wipe your feet.
So if someone says: The verse has two authentic readings from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the nasb (short a) and with the kasrah (short i), why do you not say that the foot is wiped once and washed once? Meaning, sometimes it is wiped based on the kasrah reading and sometimes it is washed based on the nasb reading?
The answer to that is to say, or the answer to that is to say: It is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he wiped over his feet except when they were in leather socks. And if that is the case, it is obligatory to apply the verse to two states, which are: that the foot is in a state where it is covered by a leather sock, and another state where it is not covered. So in the state where it is covered, it is wiped, and in the state where it is not covered, it is washed. This is the aspect of indication from the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
As for the Book of Allah, it is in His saying, the Exalted:
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles
يا أيها الذين آمنوا إذا قمتم إلى الصلاة فاغسلوا وجوهكم وأيديكم إلى المرافق وامسحوا برؤوسكم وأرجلِكم إلى الكعبينand your feet
