What distinguishes the Fajr rawatib from other rawatib, a mention of what is recited in them, and an explanation of their virtue.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The two rak'ahs before Fajr are distinguished by several matters. First: It is recommended to shorten them. It is recommended to shorten them, meaning do not prolong the ruku', do not prolong the sujud, do not prolong the standing after ruku', and do not prolong the sitting between the two prostrations. Shorten them, but with tranquility. The meaning of shortening is not without tranquility, but shortening with tranquility. This is the first point. Second: That one recites something specific in them. For the rawatib other than the Fajr rawatib, recite whatever you wish. But for the Fajr rawatib, recite something specific in them. What is this specific thing? Either the two surahs of al-Ikhlas, which are
Say: O you disbelievers!
in the first rak'ah with al-Fatihah, and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
in the second rak'ah with al-Fatihah. Or instead of that, recite the words of Allah the Exalted:
Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."
[Al-Baqarah 2:136]
In which surah is this?
The student: In Surat al-Baqarah.

The Shaykh : In Surat al-Baqarah, and in the second rak'ah
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]."
[Ali 'Imran 3:64]
. Third: That the two rak'ahs, the Fajr rawatib, it is recommended to maintain them whether resident or traveling. It is recommended to maintain them whether resident or traveling, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to maintain them whether resident or traveling. Fourth: The virtue that was reported regarding them, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
Listen.
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
Brother, are you one of the followers of Sibawayhi? Do you know grammar? You don't know? Who knows grammar? No, you are close. Who knows grammar? Grammar means inflection. Go ahead, my brother. What do you say about this pronunciation? "The two rak'ahs of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it." The subject is raised. The subject must be raised with a dammah. And here we said "the two rak'ahs," "the two rak'ahs of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it." Yes.
The student: Subject.

The Shaykh : Subject. And the subject is what?
The student: Raised.

The Shaykh : Raised. And I say with the most eloquent of creation:
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
Two rak'ahs, O Shaykh, do not sit. What? Rest. Be patient, my brother. Yes.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : What?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed. Its origin is "two rak'ahs for Fajr." Two rak'ahs. Pay attention, its origin is "two rak'ahs for Fajr are better than the world and what is in it." So the lam was deleted for the sake of addition, and the nun was also deleted, because the nun and the tanwin are deleted upon addition. The poet says:
"As if I am a tanwin and you are an addition *** So where do you see me? I do not settle in my place" A great distance, so O people, we say "two rak'ahs," subject, raised. By what? Raised by what? By the alif, because it is dual. Where is the nun? It was deleted for what? For addition. And "two rak'ahs" is the added, and "Fajr" is what it is added to. There is no objection to bringing in the jurisprudential researches in such a dish of grammar, because it clarifies for some people who are followers of Sibawayhi or not. Well,
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
What is the world? The world from when Allah created it until the Day of Resurrection, and everything in it. It is not better than the world you are in, or the world of your time. It is better than the world from its beginning to its end. And they are two light rak'ahs. How much time do you think they take? How much? A quarter of an hour. Yes, three or four minutes. Better than the world and what is in it. The bounty of Allah is vast. The virtue of good deeds is something beyond what a human can imagine. So the Fajr rawatib is distinguished by how many things? By four things. The first, brother, go ahead.
The student: Shortening.

The Shaykh : The first is shortening, but with the condition that one comes with tranquility. The second is specifying what is recited in them. The third.
The student:
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh : And what is in it is that there is a virtue in them that does not exist for any other rawatib, which is that they are better than the world and what is in it. This is three. The fourth, yes, stand up.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : What?
The student: A rawatib from the rawatib.

The Shaykh : No, rest. You did well. Maintaining them whether resident or traveling.
