Discussion of the Rawatib of Fajr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The most emphasized of these rawatib is the rawatib of Fajr, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to maintain it whether resident or traveling. As for the rawatib of Zuhr, Maghrib, and Isha, he did not pray them while traveling; he did not pray them while traveling. He maintained only the rawatib of Fajr.
The rawatib of Fajr is distinguished by the fact that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) maintained it; this is one point. Whether resident or traveling. It is distinguished by having the greatest reward. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it. ركعتا الفجر خير من الدنيا وما فيها
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
. Allah is the Greatest, meaning if someone were to say to you, "I will give you a house, not the world and what is in it, but a complete house," would you not be happy with that? Yes, you would be happy with that. But the two rak'ahs of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it. Which world? It is not the world you are in now, but the world from its beginning to its end, for the entire world is perishing; it is all perishing and does not remain. So the two rak'ahs of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Thirdly: The two rak'ahs of Fajr are distinguished by the fact that they are lightened, not made heavy. How? It is good for a person, when he prays the rawatib of Fajr, not to prolong it. For this reason, if someone were to ask: "Do you recommend that I prolong the tasbih, the du'a, and the recitation when I pray the sunnah of Fajr?" We would say: No. The one who lightens it is better than the one who makes it heavy. And I observe some of the brothers who love good, and I find that they make the sunnah of Maghrib heavy. There is no doubt that they want to increase in good, but the good is following the Sunnah, even if it is little. - Pay attention, O brother -. So these are three characteristics.
The fourth characteristic: It is recommended to recite something specific from the Qur'an in it, either
Say: O you disbelievers! قل يا أيها الكافرون
and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
.
Say: O you disbelievers! قل يا أيها الكافرون
in the first rak'ah. And
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
in the second. Or either
Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him." قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل على إبراهيم
[Al-Baqarah 2:136]
the verse in al-Baqarah in the first rak'ah, and in the second:
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah قل يا أهل الكتاب تعالوا إلى كلمة سواء بيننا وبينكم ألا نعبد إلا الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:64]
to the end. Is it better that we restrict ourselves to
Say: O you disbelievers! قل يا أيها الكافرون
and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
, or to
Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah قولوا آمنا بالله
[Al-Baqarah 2:136]
and
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come قل يا أهل الكتاب تعالوا
[Ali 'Imran 3:64]
, or is it better to do one time and the other time? It is better to do one time and the other time. Based on the rule we have referred to many times "which is that diverse acts of worship should be performed by a person in all the ways reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)".
Now, the fifth characteristic: Many of the scholars of knowledge said: "It is recommended that when one prays the sunnah of Fajr, he lie down briefly on his right side". That he lie down briefly on his right side, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do that. There is disagreement among the scholars of knowledge regarding this lying down; some said: It is an absolute sunnah. Some said: It is not a sunnah, but it is a rest, and a person who does not need it does not do it. And some said: And some distinguished and said: If the person is one who performs tahajjud at night and needs rest, it is recommended for him to rest and lie down on his right side; otherwise, it is not a sunnah. This distinction is the closest of the opinions in this issue. But I fear that if he lies down on his right side, yes, he will sleep until when? He will sleep and leave the prayer of Fajr until the sun rises. So if he fears that, he should not do it, for a sunnah that becomes a cause for leaving an obligatory act. Is that not so? Good. How many characteristics does the sunnah of Fajr have? Five characteristics. Yes. Good.
