The Meaning of Allah’s Saying: “Did He not find you an orphan and give you refuge?” and the Explanation of a Rule in Grammar

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said:
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? ألم يجدك يتيما فآوى
[Ad-Duhaa 93:6]
because He did find you. Pay attention to the important rule in Arabic: when the interrogative noun is accompanied by negation, it is for verification. So if he says:
Did He not find you? ألم يجدك
it means He did find you.
Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast? ألم نشرح لك صدرك
[Ash-Sharh 94:1]
it means We did expand your chest for you.
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? ألم يجدك يتيما فآوى
[Ad-Duhaa 93:6]
Answer: Yes. The brother says yes. The correct answer is "Bala" (Yes, indeed). My brother, the correct answer is "Bala."
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? ألم يجدك يتيما فآوى
[Ad-Duhaa 93:6]
Say "Bala." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was an orphan of both father and mother. The point is that an orphan, if no one gives him refuge, is neglected. Therefore, Allah the Exalted commanded kindness to orphans in several places in the Qur'an.
Did He not find you an orphan ألم يجدك يتيما
[Ad-Duhaa 93:6]
meaning he had neither a mother nor a father.
And give you refuge? فآوى
So He gave you refuge. Who gave him refuge first? His grandfather, 'Abd al-Muttalib. Then, when he died and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was eight years old, who took him in? His uncle, Abu Talib.
Did He not find you an orphan and give you refuge? ألم يجدك تيما فآوى
"Gave refuge"—where is the object? Because "gave refuge" (awa) takes an object. The question now for those who know Arabic and grammar is: where is the object? Please. What is the implied meaning?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Rest a moment. There is a rule, may Allah reward you, also in grammar: if the object is omitted, it indicates generality. If the object is omitted, it indicates generality. So, in this case, "gave refuge" means He gave you refuge and He gave refuge to you (as a means). He gave you refuge and He gave refuge to you. And how many people took refuge in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and He gave them refuge? So, the omission of the object is for what? For generality. It means He did not give refuge to you alone, but He gave you refuge and He also gave refuge to you (as a means).
