The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "And the morning brightness. And the night when it becomes still."
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says: [Ad-Duhaa 93:2-3] Allah the Exalted swore by two opposing things. The first is the morning brightness, which brings illumination, light, and radiance. The second is the night when it becomes still, meaning when it covers the earth with its darkness. Allah swore by them because they are among the greatest of the signs of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and among the greatest proofs of the mercy of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, toward His servants. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says: [Al-Qasas 28:71] Answer: No one. [Al-Qasas 28:71] No one. [Al-Qasas 28:72] No one. [Al-Qasas 28:73].
[Al-Qasas 28:73] This refers to the night. [An-Nahl 16:14] This refers to the day. And so that you may thank Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for this great blessing. It is impossible for all of humanity, along with all other created beings, to bring the night when it has passed, or to bring the day when it has passed.
Everything is subjugated by Allah, Mighty and Majestic. The night is for rest, and the day is for seeking the bounty of Allah. The world spreads out in it, and people seek the bounty of Allah.
But, unfortunately, many people today have made their night their day and their day their night. You find them staying awake at night until near the dawn, then they sleep, and perhaps they sleep through the Fajr prayer, may Allah protect us from that. And what are they staying awake for? They stay awake for something that is either idle talk with no good in it, or something harmful. This is the common case, and few are those who stay awake for knowledge, as Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) did. He (may Allah be pleased with him) used to spend most of the night memorizing the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised him to perform the witr prayer before what? Before he sleeps.
In any case, Allah swore by the morning brightness and the night when it becomes still because of the great signs contained in them, which indicate the perfection of His power and the perfection of His mercy.
(2) And [by] the night when it covers with darkness, (3) Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].
والضحى والليل إذا سجى ما ودعك ربك وما قلىSay, "Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you light?
قل أرأيتم إن جعل الله عليكم الليل سرمدا إلى يوم القيامة من إله غير الله يأتيكم بضياءwhat deity other than Allah could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"
من إله غير الله يـأتيكم بضياء أفلا تسمعونSay, "Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you a night in which you may rest?
قل أرأيتم إن جعل الله عليكم النهار سرمدا إلى يوم القيامة من إله غير الله يأتيكم بليل تسكنون فيهDo you not see?
أفلا تبصرونAnd out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.
ومن رحمته جعل الله لكم الليل والنهار لتسكنوا فيه ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرونAnd out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.

لتسكنوا فيهthat you may seek of His bounty
