The Shaykh : (7) Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are heedless of Our signs (8) For those their refuge will be the Fire because of what they used to earn.
إن الذين لا يرجون لقاءنا ورضوا بالحياة الدنيا واطمأنوا بها والذين هم عن آياتنا غافلون أولئك مأواهم النار بما كانوا يكسبون
Listen to four descriptions.
Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us
إن الذين لا يرجون لقاءنا
This is one.
and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are heedless of Our signs
ورضوا بالحياة الدنيا واطمأنوا بها والذين هم عن آياتنا غافلون
These four descriptions: whoever possesses them deserves what Allah the Exalted mentioned:
Their refuge is the Fire
أولئك مأواهم النار
.
do not expect the meeting with Us
لا يرجون لقاءنا
That is, they do not believe in meeting Allah, because whoever believes in something hopes for it. But they do not believe in meeting Allah, like those who deny the resurrection and say:
There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time.
ما هي إلا حياتنا الدنيا نموت ونحيا وما يهلكنا إلا الدهر
. And they say:
And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.
ائتوا بأباءنا إن كنتم صادقين
. As if it were said to them that their fathers would be resurrected in this world. The news of the resurrection is only in the Hereafter after people die. But these people argue with falsehood to refute the truth. Therefore, I say, my brother, correct your creed, correct the creed. Know that you will meet your Lord, as He Mighty and Majestic said:
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
يا أيها الإنسان إنك كادح إلى ربك كدحا فملاقيه
It is inevitable; indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Adi bin Hatim narrated that: the Messenger of Allah said: “Each one of you will be spoken to by his lord, with no mediator between them. He will look in from of him and the fire will be facing him. He will look to his right and will not see anything but something that he had sent on before. He will look to his left and will not see anything but something that he had sent on before. Whoeever among you can save himself in Fire, even with half a date, let him do so.”
ما منكم من أحد إلا سيكلمه ربه ليس بينه وبينه ترجمان فيرى أيمن منه فلا يرى إلا ما قدم ويرى أشأم منه meaning on the left
and see nothing but his deeds which he has sent forward, and will look in front of him and see nothing but the (Hell) Fire facing him. So save yourself from the (Hell) Fire even with half a date (given in charity).
فلا يرى إلا ما قدم وينظر تلقاء وجه فلا يرى إلا النار تلقاء وجهه فاتقوا النار ولو بشق تمرة It is inevitable that one will meet Allah. Allah is the Greatest! It is inevitable. Prepare for this meeting; what will you answer your Lord? Prepare for this
and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein
ورضوا بالحياة الدنيا واطمأنوا بها
They were content with it in place of the Hereafter. They found peace in it, settled in it, and considered it their final destination, believing that there is no resurrection. How many are there today who are content with this worldly life and find peace in it, yet they do not hope to meet Allah. We ask Allah for well-being.
and those who are heedless of Our signs
والذين هم عن آياتنا غافلون
meaning they are heedless of the signs of Allah, that is, of His revelation which He sent down to His messengers, and of His creations which they were commanded to reflect upon
Heedless, their refuge is the Fire as a recompense
غافلون أولئك مأواهم النار جزاء
Yes
for what they used to earn.
بما كانوا يكسبون
that is, because of what they have earned.
