Exhortation to reflect upon the Qur'an and act upon it, and that holding fast to it is the strength of the Muslim community.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Brothers, was the Qur'an revealed merely to be blessed by its recitation? Or for other great meanings?
The answer is: for other great meanings. Listen to the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you كتاب أنزلناه إليك مبارك
[Sad 38:29]
complete
So that they may reflect upon its verses. ليدبروا آياته
so that they may understand it, know its meaning, and grasp its purpose
and that those of understanding would be reminded. وليتذكر أولوا الألباب
[Sad 38:29]
meaning so that they may act upon it. For this reason, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not move past ten verses until they learned them, the knowledge contained in them, and the action required by them. They learned them in their wording and the knowledge within them, meaning the meaning and the action. They said:
We learned the Qur'an, the knowledge, and the practice all together فتعلمنا القرآن والعلم والعمل جميعا
.
I ask you, may Allah reward you, and you recite the Book morning and evening. Do you care for its meaning as you care for memorizing it? Answer honestly? Yes, no, that is a mistake. Care for its meaning as you care for memorizing it.
Now, after a person cares for its meaning, does he care for acting upon it as he cares for its wording and meaning? The answer is: there is much negligence, much negligence. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
the Qur'an is proof, either for you or against you القرآن حجة لك أو عليك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2437Sahih (Darussalam)
There is no middle ground; it is either for you or against you. If Allah bestows the Qur'an upon you, it is either for you or against you. When will it be for you? When you believe in its reports with a faith free from doubt, and when you act upon its rulings, obey its commands, and avoid its prohibitions, then it will be for you.
I ask Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in this place to make the Qur'an an argument for us all, not against us. Otherwise, it is against you. There is a reader who reads the Qur'an, and the Qur'an curses him, may Allah protect us from that, if he does not act upon it.
So, my brothers, in this context, I exhort you to two things:
The first: reflecting upon the Qur'an to know its meaning.
And the second: acting upon it so that we may truly be the nation of the Qur'an. For this reason, the Muslim community is currently ill, except that many of them have turned away from the Qur'an and gone to the thought of so-and-so, the thought of so-and-so, the opinion of so-and-so, and the opinion of so-and-so. But if they had held fast to it, Allah would have said:
and strive against them with the Qur'an a great striving. وجاهدهم به جهادا كبيرا
[Al-Furqan 25:52]
If we had held fast, by Allah, to the Qur'an, no one would have overcome us. And I tell you, what was the measure of the Arabs and the strength of the Arabs in relation to the Persians, the Romans, the Copts, and others? What was the measure? Answer? Nothing, nothing. But when they took hold of this Qur'an, they ruled the east and west of the earth, until the crown of Kisra was brought from Ctesiphon to the Prophet's city. As the historians said, it was brought, a crown adorned with gold and pearls, on two camels, one camel could not carry it from Ctesiphon to the Prophet's city, and it was placed before 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). By what did the Muslims overcome their enemies? By their holding fast to the Book of Allah. And for this reason, although we are now numerous, but by Allah, we are like the scum of a flood. A person among us, his children do not rise for him, nor his family, nor his neighbors, nor his relatives, let alone does he rise for himself, sometimes.
