What must I do if the obligatory prayer becomes due while I am on a plane during travel, for example during the time of the 'Asr prayer, and the time for the prayer is about to end?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : After the introduction, the questioner asks: O honorable Shaykh, what must I do if the obligatory prayer becomes due while I am on a plane during travel, for example during the time of the 'Asr prayer, and the time for the prayer is about to end?

The Shaykh : If the obligatory prayer or a voluntary prayer becomes due for a person, the matter regarding the voluntary prayer is broad; he prays on the plane and there is no blame on him. But as for the obligatory prayer, if it becomes due for him to pray the obligatory prayer on the plane, and this obligatory prayer is not combined with the one following it, such as the 'Asr prayer, the 'Isha' prayer, or the Fajr prayer, then let him pray on the plane itself and let him perform the obligatory acts according to his ability. Can he stand up on the plane? I seek refuge in Allah, how is that not possible? No, he can, my brother.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : He can, may Allah bless you. And we have stood on the plane; you cannot stand? He can. Good. Can he face the qiblah while standing? He can, my friends. He can, even if the seat is in front of him. Can he bow? He may be able to, and he may not be able to. He may be able to, and he may not be able to. Can he prostrate? He cannot. So he bows while standing, and when it is time to prostrate, he sits on the seat and indicates the prostration, and he completes his prayer in this manner.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : As for if the prayer is combined with the one following it, such as the Dhuhr prayer, we say: delay the prayer and combine it with 'Asr. The usual case in domestic airports is that the prayer is not missed, because if he stands up after the time of Dhuhr has entered, he combines 'Asr with it, and if he stands up before the time of Dhuhr has entered, he combines it with 'Asr. Yes.
