Explanation of the Book of Prayer and Its Times-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Sa'id ibn 'Ufayr narrated to us, saying: Al-Layth narrated to me, saying: 'Aqil narrated to me from Ibn Shihab, saying: Mahmud ibn al-Rabi' al-Ansari
That 'Utbah ibn Malik, who was among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and among the Ansar who witnessed Badr, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my eyesight has become weak, and I lead my people in prayer. When it rains, the valley between me and them floods, and I am unable to come to their mosque to pray with them. I wish, O Messenger of Allah, that you would come to me and pray in my house, so that I may make it a place of prayer." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I will do so, if Allah wills." 'Utbah said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr came in the morning when the sun had risen. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked permission to enter, and I gave it to him. He did not sit down until he had entered the house. Then he said: 'Where would you like me to pray in your house?' I pointed to a corner of the house. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said the takbir. We stood up and formed rows. He prayed two rak'ahs and then gave the salam. He said: We detained him for a light meal...

The Shaykh :
light meal خزيرة

The reader:
We detained him (the Holy Prophet) for the meat curry we had prepared for, him. The people of the neighbouring houses came and thus there was a good gathering in (our house). One of them said: Where is Malik b. Dukhshun? Upon this one of them remarked: He is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Do not say so about him. Don't you see that he utters La ilaha ill-Allah (There is no god but Allah) and seeks the pleasure of Allah through it? They said: Allah and His Messenger know beet. One (among the audience) said: We see
Sahih Muslim 33c

The Shaykh :
We see his face

The reciter:
One (among the audience) said: We see his inclination and wellwishing for hypocrites only. Upon this the Messenger of Allah' (ﷺ) again said: Verily Allah has forbidden the Fire for one who says: There is no god but Allah, thereby seeking Allah's pleasure.
Sahih Muslim 33c
, Ibn Shihab said: "Then I asked al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Ansari, who was one of the Banu Salim and one of their leaders, about the hadith of Mahmud ibn al-Rabi', and he confirmed it for me."

The Shaykh : This hadith contains benefits. First:

The questioner : O Shaykh ... the hadith.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is correct. First: the people of Badr hold a high rank, as indicated by
among the Ansar who witnessed Badr
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:426
This is because the Day of Badr was a great day on which Allah granted victory to the Muslims and supported the believers, and Allah the Exalted named it the Day of Decision. He said to the people of Badr
Do what you wish, I have forgiven you.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2650Sahih (Al-Albani)
Thus, being among those who witnessed Badr is counted among a man’s virtues, and this is true. His statement
my eyesight has become weak
means that his eyesight was weak or that he was blind. “And I am praying for my people” means that he is leading them in prayer. “If the rains come” means if they occur, and this is a complete excuse, meaning that he was
the valley between me and them flooded
and was unable to come to their mosque to pray with them. This is a valid legal excuse. If a mountain prevents you from reaching the mosque and you are unable to cross it, then you are excused for missing the congregational prayer.
