Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message that reached the program from the listener Abdullah Yahya. We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he has a few more remaining. In one of his questions, he says: I performed the obligatory Hajj, and I decided to fast on the Day of 'Arafah during that Hajj. Many people disapproved of what I did and directed me to you, may Allah reward you with good. Is there anything required of me now? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
The Sunnah for the pilgrim is not to fast on the Day of 'Arafah, and if he has fasting to make up, he should fast before that. This is because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the Day of the Farewell Pilgrimage while not fasting, and Umm al-Fadl sent him a cup of milk, so he drank it while the people were watching, so that they would know that he was not fasting. It is also established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade fasting on the Day of 'Arafah while at 'Arafah.
The Sunnah for the pilgrims is not to fast on the Day of 'Arafah. And you, in the future—if Allah wills—do not fast on 'Arafah while you are a pilgrim. As for the past, you owe nothing, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
