Making up fasting in Ramadan on the Day of 'Arafah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 2174 )
Q2: I broke my fast for one day in Ramadan due to severe illness. Is it permissible for me to make it up on the Day of 'Arafah, the day of Hajj? Knowing that I have already fasted it.
A2: If you have fasted on the Day of 'Arafah to make up for the day you broke in Ramadan, then it suffices you as making up for the day you broke. However, it is better for a person to make up what he owes in fasting on a day other than the Day of 'Arafah; so that he can devote himself to dhikr (remembrance of Allah), du'a (supplication), and similar acts of worship if he is a pilgrim, and fast it voluntarily if he is not a pilgrim. By doing so, he combines the virtue of voluntary fasting on the Day of 'Arafah with the obligation of making up the fast on another day, and avoids the disagreement regarding the dislike of making up fasts in the first nine days of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
