And Allah the Exalted has censured the Jews for their distortion, and made it clear that by their distortion they are among the farthest people from faith.

The Shaykh :"And Allah the Exalted has censured the Jews for their distortion, and made it clear that by their distortion they are among the farthest people from faith".
We ask Allah for safety, because if a person builds his creed upon what his book requires, it is unlikely that he will move away from it. This is unlike the ignorant person; it is easy to move the ignorant person from what he is upon to what you want from him. But the one who builds his creed upon a book that is sacred to him, it is unlikely that he will change. Did you answer? They distorted the Torah with a clear distortion, even distorting the command of Allah the Mighty and Majestic when He commanded them, when they opened up the lands, to say "Hittah" (meaning: remit our sins) and to enter the gate in prostration and to say "Hittah." What did they do? The exegetes said that they entered on their buttocks, meaning on their tails, and on their backs, the opposite of prostration. Prostration is when a person prostrates and places his forehead on the ground, as is well known. But they did not do that; rather, they walked backward on their buttocks. And what did they say regarding "Hittah"? They said "Hunat" (wheat). "Hittah" means: remit our sins, but they were a people who wanted to eat, so they said "Hunat." Thus, they distorted the text according to their desires. They also have many distortions. When they distorted it, Allah the Mighty and Majestic addressed this community: ":
Do you covet [the hope, O believers], that they would believe for you while a party of them used to hear the words of Allah and then distort the Torah after they had understood it while they were knowing?
[Al-Baqarah 2:75]
"
These people are unlikely to be guided. Why? Because they think they are on the right path, and whoever is like that is very unlikely to change from what he was upon. "And Allah the Exalted said:
Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] usages and say, "We hear and disobey"
[An-Nisa 4:46]
"
The word "distort" (yuharrifun) poses a difficulty for the student, because the prepositional phrase (al-jar wa al-majrur) cannot correctly be connected to it. It is said that the Qur'an is the most eloquent of all speech. If the word were deleted, it would be sufficient, so it occurs in some places like this:
Among the Jews are those who distort
[An-Nisa 4:46]
and [also] from the people of Madinah. They have become accustomed to hypocrisy.
[At-Tawbah 9:101]
He, the Exalted, says:
distort words from their [proper] usages
[An-Nisa 4:46]
And "al-kalim" (the words) means the word of Allah, from their places.
and say, "We hear and disobey" ويقولون سمعنا وعصينا
[An-Nisa 4:46]
We ask Allah for well-being. "We heard and we disobeyed" is an open display of arrogance, rejection, and refusal.
"Hear but be not heard"
[An-Nisa 4:46]
Did you understand? "Listen, may Allah not make you hear." What is the meaning of "may Allah not make you hear"? It is like saying, "Listen, may Allah deafen your ears."
And "Ra'ina" (feed us) they say to the Messenger, meaning "be rough with us" (ra'unah), and "Listen and look at us" (wasma' wa nathurna).
and "Hear but be not heard" and "Ra'ina," twisting their tongues and defaming the religion
[An-Nisa 4:46]
For this reason, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, forbade the Muslims from saying "Ra'ina," even if they intended a correct meaning, so that they would not resemble the Jews in their intent. So He said:
O you who have believed, say not [to Allah 's Messenger], "Ra'ina" but say, "Unthurna"
[Al-Baqarah 2:104]
